First place is good. Would like to see that continue for the next 139 games.

Another Darvish fail.
Signing Darvish vs. resigning Arrieta may cost the Cubs a second WS for this core. They would have won the division last year and Darvish is costing them again this year.

Re: The Shift does MLB turn a deaf ear?

THIS. Pitchers pitched to contact back in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, etc. Bob Gibson was the hardest thrower of his era and was likely around 94-95 consistently if I had to guess(can’t find anything online about what his fastball speed likely was). Now 94-95 is almost considered slow with every roster i...

Re: The Shift does MLB turn a deaf ear?

Runs are currently up .2 over last year but are mid to low in MLB history. HR / game are up .15 per game up from last year and at 1.3 / game would be tops in MLB history. Strike outs are up again and at the highest rate in baseball history. Hits are down from last year as are average which at .244 ...

Re: NCAA basketball coaches among 10 charged with fraud and corruption

LSU coach reinstated. While they should anyway, if no schools get punished, the NCAA should stop pretending and allow athletes to be paid in the open.

Re: The Masters

I've never noticed the difference in following online, but I'm fairly certain TV leaderboards always list the player with more holes to play first. The thinking is they have more opportunity to gain shots if they have more to play. Even if TV ensures Tiger is always listed as favorably as possible,...

Maybe so. However, other great athletes like Jordan and Magic Johnson were just as bad and never got anywhere near the push back for their cheating ways.

It really is amazing that Tiger won this. Never thought it would happen again. And the way he acted after never happens if he didn’t go through everything he did. He has come out seemingly a much better person with a lot more appreciation I have never gotten the utter vitriol Tiger got. He was an u...

Re: The Shift does MLB turn a deaf ear?

Speaking of fans, I haven't researched anything other than what my eyes tell me...But when I watch highlights of various MLB games the stands in many stadiums are pretty sparse. Even the Cardinal Dodger series, Busch looked half full. I have seen the bleachers in a few MLB parks empty. Seems like e...

Re: The Shift does MLB turn a deaf ear?

The ballpark is packed with casual fans waiting to see star players slap singles around the park! More scoring, more base runners, more action, and yes home runs too. Casual fans don't want to see 6 pitchers combining to strike out 12, allow 3 runs on 2 home runs in a game that takes well over 3 ho...

Re: The Shift does MLB turn a deaf ear?

If the numbers for hitters are down doesn’t that show the numbers for pitchers are up? The increased strikeout totals cannot solely be laid on the feet of the hitters. Guys are throwing harder than ever before. Guys aren’t facing hitters a third time in a game where they are usually more vulnerable...

Re: The Shift does MLB turn a deaf ear?

The problem is that scoring is down in last 10 years, batting average is down, strikeouts are way up, total bases down, hits are down, etc. All this while game length is increasing. So homers or bust is making the game slower, less offense, and more boring. Not a good combo.

Re: The Shift does MLB turn a deaf ear?

It is tricky. Some suggest that the shift has caused hitters to focus more on flyballs / home runs which has in turn led to more strikeouts. I couldn't find a quick link showing fly ball and ground ball percentages over time, but Ks are definitely up and averages down. The percentage of ground ball...

Back to .500. Bats need to wake up, outside of Wong at .394, they have only 1 other regular hitting over .250 (DeJong .264) while having four hitting under .200.

Strikeouts are the issue. The use of relievers and where starters go 6 and stop mean they can pitch for Ks.

Last year Virginia lost #1 vs. #16.

This year, #1 down double digits to a #16 Gardner-Webb. They come back to win by double digits and are now playing in the championship.

Crazy tournament for them.
