Re: Public beer sales starting this fall at Memorial Stadium and SFC

I thought my wife had a good suggestion after seeing Lovie the last couple of nights on the news. She thinks the Illini cheer squad ought to add this to their repertoire this season: "Cut that beard! Cut that beard!"

Re: Jim Bouton dead

I know that virtually no one reads books anymore, but a couple of books came to mind regarding Mantle and his metamorphosis, such as it was: (And anyone who read Ball Four will know that there was a whole MM psychological subtext vis a vis ex-teammate Bouton) Letters to Mickey, a compilation of lett...

One of my top five books of all time, all genres. If people here haven't read it...do it now. The number of great lines in that book are too many to count. [/q uote. I couldn't agree more. a tremendously influential book in a time when much much much was NOT talked about publicly and the press was ...

Yanks v Bosox in London

Anybody watching this? Six pounds fifty for a Heineken. That's like fifteen bucks, isn't it? Both pitchers knocked out in the first inning, never seen that before.

Re: IHSA Districts Passes

I think it was predicated on football. They were just getting slammed in the cs8. Why drive those distances for all other sports, in which you're more or less competitive? As far as hoops goes, yeah, they're playing down there, but to get anywhere in the postseason, they still have to go through the...

how does this work for Lincoln, do you think? Wasn't their move to the Apollo predicated solely on FB? And now that's blown up.

Re: IHSA Districts Passes

a couple of good points there---only allow FB schools to vote and co-op schools only get a single vote. it seems to me that if a do-over vote were held under those conditions it would be easier to live with the outcome

Even with about 30 seconds to play, I'd have bet the deed to grandma's ranch they would lose that game. What a great win, especially in the Garden. Those two subs had the games of their lives. It was said that one of the two is from Chandler, AZ. How the heck did he find his way to Cham-bana? (And w...

For those who said Notre Dame had no business in hen playoffs we can now say that Alabama had no business being their, either.
Much as I dislike Bama, they earned their spot as a conf. champ.

Re: Bowl Season

I’m going to really miss Dwayne Haskins. He is the best college thrower I’ve seen in a long time. Murray and Tua had running to help themselves but just strictly as a passer Haskins is unbelievable. He will be the best pro of the 3 as long as he doesn’t go to the Raiders. Lock of Missouri and Grier...

Love it. I might just weigh 500 pounds when this bowl season is over as my wife is just bringing me my meals. Hope your Buckeyes keep it rolling. Would like to see the SEC go 0-11.

Re: College Football Week 13

It's funny that Orgeron got the premature Gatorade shower. The only other time I've seen that LSU was on the other end of it. Kentucky, when they were terrible, thought they had LSU beat, and showered the poor coach and the gave up a 70 yard TD as time ran out.

Re: College Football Week 13

a weak 7. they seemed to get a lot of early season rankings traction out of beating Auburn, a 7-5 team. They played Alabama to within 29 without scoring a point. I said a weak 7. Didn't say they were weak.

Re: College Football Week 13

I thought they were a pretty weak 7, I wonder what that'll do to the rankings. As A & M is also an SEC team, they probably won't drop that much. Herbstreit said in his telecast how much Jimbo Fisher needed that win to maintain credibility and to justify his $$$$$contract. I also heard on another gam...

Re: College Football Week 13

That sounds right, unfortunately. The rivalry has actually lacked balance for almost 30 years now. John Cooper of Ohio St. was 2-10-1 against Michigan and then Tressel and now Meyer have dominated it the other way. Cooper used to say, "some days you're drinking the wine, other days you're stomping ...

Re: 4A-6A Title Games Thread

Crete had a pretty crazy looking kickoff to start the game. Not very often you see a game begin with an onside kick. Looked like they were doing the Jud Heathcoate weave before kicking the ball away. It failed, of course, but looked great.
