Re: Pandemic thread

Tribe, you could be right in some of your sentiments. But really, with a pandemic, and being an open society, I can't really be that embarrassed about this. It's a pandemic. Yes, we could have started some things earlier and there were some missteps, but even if we enacted some protocols earlier, w...

Re: Chicago Bears 2019

Bears add Cowboys pass rusher Robert Quinn while releasing Floyd....thoughts? The Bears front seven pass rush (if Hicks comes back fully healthy) could give opponents some nightmares...

Re: Pandemic thread

I won't get into how slow we were as a country to respond to all this - it's all water under the bridge. And here in Chicago the bars were full on Saturday for St. Patty celebrations - that really ticked off the governor! :) Also, last week I dropped my friend off at the orange line and the train ca...

Re: Chicago Bears 2019

Not the most exciting pickup but he is still an upgrade over anything the Bears had last year. I know some were hoping for someone like Austin Hooper but on way in heck the Bears could afford that kind of money. I dunno, with what little money the Bears have to offer, is there any better tight end o...

Re: Bears getting Teddy

I have mixed feelings if the Bears do get Bridgewater. Based off last year, yes, Bridgewater would be upgrade over Mitch. He showed better decision making skills and was better in short passing game. However, the Saints offense last year was much better than the Bears and helped make Teddy look real...

Re: NFL CBA

Not thrilled with unbalanced 17 game schedule. 16 games was long enough. Even at 16 games, the quality of play at times suffered due to injuries. Do we really want to see 3rd string QB's and practice squad players starting late in the season? Or teams resting more starters due to long season? I know...

Yuck!!! Even without the virus, one can only imagine the germs on that rail! :D Reminds me of when Buddy (Will Farrell) in "Elf" was picking gum off a railings and eating it!

Re: Next Year?

What’s the likelihood that there are any college athletics next year? Most medical professionals believe the virus will slow down in the summer and come back bigger in the fall and winter. That's what happened in the USA during the 1918 Spanish flu....it came in the spring time, slowed or stopped i...

Re: Corona Virus

Missouri is going ahead with their high school basketball tournaments. Limiting schools to 150 attendees each. https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/editorials/article241172826.html I really wish Illinois had done something similar...I was at a grocery store today and there had to be 150-200 people in...

Re: Corona Virus

It is a mess! But if basketball seniors this year were allowed to play next, there would be some really strong college teams! I would think the quality of ball would go up....but what about incoming freshmen who chose their school because they thought the seniors would be gone?

This virus ***! I wish R-B could have played this weekend, who knows, they might have walked away as state champs! This only comes around once in a lifetime for most schools....just a shame :x

Re: IHSA

Play, yes. In front of 60 fans for each team. I really thought for a second the IHSA wouldn't fall into this fear monger trap. Oh well. I would go with that for this weekend. I understand some of closing down large arenas to 20,000 people but I really wished since the virus is just starting ...

This *** for Notre Dame. I know that Peoria Spalding and Bergen both made it to state but has Notre Dame ever made it to state? I don't know why they can't play the tournament this weekend without fans...if people are using trains, planes and automobiles :D and still going to church and other places...

Circling back to sports. TNT is showing the 2020 all star game instead of regular NBA game. For NCAA tournament, would be cool if they replayed classic games from each round of previous tournaments. For example, first round games could be 16 beating 1 seed, 15s over 2s, buzzer beaters, 2nd round ga...

Re: Corona Virus

People need to stop comparing this to a seasonal flu. This virus has a much higher contagious rate and death rate at this point. But I am confused on a few things....it's fine if they want to suspend sports events but here in Chicago the subways and buses are still running and multiple other places...

Re: Corona Virus

Oh and here is in interesting bit of local sports trivia on epidemic outbreaks. In 1957 the world experienced an Asian flu outbreak that was severe. Here in the USA (remember the population was much smaller than now with 180 million compared to 330 million today) over 70,000 people died that year! I...

Gosh, when I started this thread, I was only doing a "what if" situation. I really didn't seriously think that all this would take place this fast - sports tournaments and non sports big time events cancelled, stadiums empty, NBA, NFL and MLB all talking about contingency plans...wow! This i...

I wish Pekin had won the Moline regional. They would have been playing at home tonight! :( Normal West has pulled off some wins but the train ride ends on Friday - no way in hades they beat Collinsville!
