Re: High School Soccer

A shame if what he said was a slam- I didn’t happen to hear it. If it was more along the lines of “looking forward to playing teams that can run the whole field with us”, then I can believe that. In PND’s best years, at least in the past, all the central Illinois teams against Peoria ND would play a...

Re: Scores & Updates Week# 7

Two teams- Central has needed come from behind victories the last 2 years to beat PND, each time by a TD or less. The year before that, PND blew them out. Who knows if PND will continue to play at a high level, but they mostly have for about the last 5 years now. It does look like they need some def...

Re: First to finish

It will be interesting to see if this is the year that Dunlap's girls break through. For several years now, they seem to have all the talent in the world coming out of the junior high program but then don't quite get there in high school. Just bad luck, or with girls maturing earlier than boys, do r...

Re: notre dame

This is, no doubt, a down year for the PND program. I don't know that there is much to read into it. They did have a long 10 years or so of competitive, entertaining teams with good talent. If they stay down more than a couple years, that's when it becomes a problem, from an attitude perspective.

Re: Hey a swimming thread

Conference meets coming up. Looks like PND is currently ranked #1 in state, potential state final 6/12 qualifiers in most events, and Dunlap is also state ranked. Should be a fun end of season.

Re: State meet local predictions

Yes – I will confess I have not followed the team standings that closely the season, certainly not statewide. But Yorkville's fourth runner was within five seconds of Dunlap's first. That has to be a shock if you're aiming for the title. And PND was within 1 several seconds per runner on #2-5 of pas...

Re: 4A-6A Second Round Matchups

Regarding the previous post- I have to also wonder- isn't the "success penalty" for all, not just privates? Wouldn't Rochester football be one of the first teams in any sport where many would think this rule would apply? How are they still 4A?

Re: Normal U-High Sectional

congratulations to Dunlap on their solid team victory, and to Notre Dame for pushing past Washington and being a reasonably competitive second place. Looks like Maryjeanne won by around 1:20 despite lousy conditions. Hopefully better weather for state.

Re: IHSA CC Regionals

That's a great finish if none are top 5, but why? Are they rehabbing injuries and a muddy course is a problem? Avoiding illnesses? Gilbert certainly didn't need to run for ND to qualify, but she was there. Made for a fun day for Washington, I guess .

Re: Mj Gilbert and sub 16!

I think times go up, especially for her, only if due to weather or illness. No way Dan Gray had her taper training at all for a conference meet that she was always going to win by 90 seconds or more. I suspect at least a little faster at state, but as a previous poster noted, weather is the huge unk...

Re: College FB Week 6

I was watching TCU vs K State. Is it time for KState's coach to retire? Down 3 with 2 plus minutes left and 1 yard to go against a team that is scoring almost at will on you, and you kick a field goal ? If it gave you the lead, I could understand. So TCU scores in about 50 seconds. If you don't thin...

Re: 3A Central Illinois Sectional Matchups

I agree that Manual is playing well and will be tough to knock them out. I do think that it has taken much of the season for PND to get comfortable with everyone playing together, and seemingly for the football guys to gradually get shooting touch back. Now that they are often shooting better from o...

Re: 3A Boys Regionals

A good point about the IESA. I've yet to see any of the powerhouse Chicago and suburban area grade schools entered in the tournament. Or just about any teams in those counties at all, for that matter. Not that it's not a good tournament, but the Chicago schools couldn't care less about it, so far. F...

Re: Preseason All-Area Boys Basketball

Probably have to wait till at least late December to see how PND looks on the court as a team - at least 3-4 of their potential top 8 or so players just got done with football yesterday.

Re: (1) Lemont (H.S.) vs (1) Peoria (Notre Dame)

Lemont played a great game. Their line was very precise and physical, the first team this year to really be able to push Notre Dame around somewhat. A couple of turnovers really hurt Notre Dame and turned the momentum even further Lemont's way. Despite that, if they could have avoided the one rather...

Re: (1) Lemont (H.S.) vs (1) Peoria (Notre Dame)

I'm sure Lemont must be quite good- I seem to recall Oak Lawn Richards being well respected during the regular season. However, as GBG or someone commented in another forum, "Andy Shadid is a ton". The real problem is that if you start overplaying him, they run the quick hit counter, or fake the pit...

Re: Playoffs

Looks like the down-to-the-wire, double OT PND vs Wheaton Academy match in the super sectional was the actual title match. The semi and final were blowouts for Wheaton Academy. Perhaps the IHSA will go back to a different bracket like 2 yrs ago and prior. 2 yrs ago these 2 teams had another epic mat...

Re: (6) East St. Louis (Sr.) Vs (1) Peoria (Notre Dame)

Obviously, ESL is a more historically successful opponent, but this year's squad has not exactly been a juggernaut. They practically needed a little luck to beat Richwoods, and both PND and PHS dropped Richwoods by 40. It may be difficult, but I see PND winning this one. Also, PND doesn't always use...

Re: (3) Peoria High vs (2) Metamora

A couple thoughts: 1) the weather prediction I saw for Peoria for Sat was cold, but not >20% chance of rain. 2) with regards to Metamora not giving up more than 2 TDs in any game- I believe PND's starting D averaged 5 pts per game or less yielded, but at least 1/2 or more of the season total (26 pts...

Re: Playoffs

ND loses 3-2 w 2 minutes left in 2nd OT, after leading the majority of the game. I hear one Wheaton goal in reg off a PK, the other off a PK or other close in penalty kick. Tough way to lose but to a very good team. That may have been the state title match, in a way. The winner of those 2 schools to...

Re: (3) Peoria High vs (2) Metamora

My point wasn't that PHS was sure to win, just that they will almost certainly score 4 TDs or more, barring injury to QB or RB. So you have to be mentally prepared for that and go for the jugular, offensively. This is incredibly unlikely to be a 21-10 type of game, in my view. So your offense better...

Re: (3) Peoria High vs (2) Metamora

Metamora better plan on scoring about 45 or so. PHS is legit both running and passing. If the weather is reasonable for passing, that's better for Peoria High. Hernandez is tough to stop.

If Marion wins out? Aren't you the funny man! Only slightly more likely than the Illini were to win today.
