TAS, how do you feel about the tournament expanding from 68 to 72 teams?: http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/arti ... 23724.html
72 is better than 68; 64 is better than 72.

Endgame is probably a MEAC/SWAC merger. I don't see many ways around it.

Re: 2018-19 Schedule

TAS - most amazing, how? Marquee power? Because that schedule didn't really perform. Six of the 12 teams had losing records -- including Iowa and Iowa State. Three of the 12 made the NCAA: Vandy (4 seed), Michigan State (5) and Butler (7). VCU at 24-8 arguably got snubbed. The strongest non-con sch...

Re: 2018-19 Schedule

The only reason to bring up Les in a thread like this should be to celebrate the most amazing non-conference schedule I've ever seen in my life: 07-08.

Re: Paying NCAA Athletes

If you have a birthday, do you prefer $100 in cash or $100 in gift cards? The NCAA as set up is like gift cards. The players do get "paid", but in a specific way (scholarships) instead of cold hard cash. Another tangential point: the NCAA needs to do a better job of pointing out the student in stude...

Re: 2018-19 Schedule

St Mary's, Buffalo, Tulsa, and Charleston are no-brainers in that they should provide resume value and they won't be dead weight in the worst-case scenarios. I would take them in the order Buffalo, Tulsa, St Mary's, Charleston. I'd rather not absorb the SoS penalties that come with a Horizon or A-Fu...

Bradley also posted this the day after Arch Madness Bradley will be a QUADRANT I matchup for any team playing at Bradley next season. NCAA now emphasizes Quadrant I games in Tournament Selection. QUADRANT I = Top 75 Road Game / Top 50 Neutral Game / Top 30 Home Game Bradley is looking for a Power 6...

Re: Former Braves at season's end

Thanks, TAS, for ^^^. I get the concept you've outlined. But, theoretically at least, wouldn't Lunardi get that, too, and so therefore adjust his brackets to account for the median-ization you describe, and pick 3-4 mids that would be likely dancers? If he can't ID who those should be, get help fro...

Re: Former Braves at season's end

Of course it's way too early for Lunardi's Bracketology to be meaningful in any detailed ways, but still, why not cherry pick some good and bad news out of it: The good * Notably missing: Wichita State. Shocking! The bad * Only 1 again from MVC, predicted reasonably as Loyola, and no mids in the 16...

Re: Jerry Palm podcast

Always beware the law of unintended consequences. That was part of Palm's point about the push to a new metric to replace the RPI (or an overhauled RPI, if you prefer). Changes don't always produce the preferred result. TAS is right. The formula -- whatever that might be -- doesn't need to change s...

Re: Jerry Palm podcast

I hear what you're saying TAS...correct me if I'm wrong, but basically you're saying that it's more likely that a this year's USC team gets in vs. a last year's ISU team were those changes go into effect? Yes, and I'd go a step further - this year's Nebraska would get consideration over last year's...

Re: Jerry Palm podcast

Finally, an ally against the silly idea everyone thinks is a good idea. You cannot put in a rule against teams that are sub-.500 in conference, for several reasons: - like he said, it's only 60% of a schedule, and the NCAA has come out and said they don't differentiate between a conference game and ...

Re: Valley trashed by Matt Norlander

I'm guessing the Zags and WCC are reasonably confident they are split-safe. As should we, as TAS alluded to in another thread-with next year's double-dip in the FF units/shares, the league should mandate spending standards to ensure we separate from all other leagues outside the top 8 in DI. They r...

Are we really calling 850k "transformational"? Eh, probably.

Hopefully this wakes up the bottom end of the conference, and lets us separate for good from everyone not in the top 9.

Re: 2017-2018 Bracketology

TAS, did you ever find the 1-68 rankings the NCAA had for the tournament? I'm still curious why Duke would get shipped to Pittsburgh for the 1st 2 rounds rather than go to the closer venue in Nashville. I know Cincy and Xavier both got sent to Nashville though off the top of my head I'd think that ...

Re: Realignment Uh-Oh

It’s why MVC Presidents, especially the private ones, will value schools in bigger urban areas where potential students will come from. If that's the case, how did Valpo get so much support? If I were a President in the MVC, especially for a private school, exposure is what would matter the most. M...

It really is what schools could do with the MVC brand. I agree with all you said, but really interesting that Murray and NKU are both realistic candidates for some pretty distinctly different reasons. I’d take them both pretty happily. Truly, though, this is all just a kinda fun rhetorical exercise...
