Wholi and Murph on the same day. Is everyone plotting to give me a stroke?

J/K...welcome back, Wholi!
Where are Tierra del Fuego and Vet?
Tierra del Fuego has been overseas for a number of years now. He's been in a number of third world countries. Right now he is battling some major health problems. He has set up a Go Fund Me page to help cover his medial expenses.

I don't know what happened to vet.

I've seen Joe around a time or two. He came out to Five Points in Washington to watch me play in a pickleball tournament about two years ago.

Lefty is one of the pickleball kings in Peoria. I've partnered with him in a tournament or two. And his wife is a very good player as well.

I knew about TdF including him being severely beat up in Asia.

Last I heard Vet was in Indy.

Joe always makes it to the ISU game at BU.

Illinois has had a number of disasterous starts with the same starting five. I've never heard of a 1-19 FG start to a game that wasn't a women's basketball game. I think it is time to start Frazier (and maybe Williams). I admire the team for fighting back from big deficits, but this has become a glaring weakness.

That beating was from a cab driver, I believe. That was probably 4-5 years ago. He was doing some teaching in some of the countries I believe. I could never figure out why he departed the country.

This is imported Italian nylon and it's a special edition limited silk print and it was done by this really famous design artist.

True. The biggest thing to see this season is which players will fit Underwood's system going forward. Once they can figure that out and get some quality bigs inside, they could be a scary good team.

Check page 4 of the linked thread.
Wow - I "relearned" myself a few things, after reading that entire thread.

Wow...That thread was linked in a thread that I started about former posters. I don't remember starting that discussion, I don't recall commenting in it and I don't recall reading the linked thread or Mr Happy very very long post.
Thanks J.J. for what I consider sound advice!

Unfortunately, my last pickleball tournament was on Labor Day weekend in Nashville, TN in 2016. I came down with West Nile Virus (encephalitis AND meningitis) shortly after that and am still recovering. I hope to get back on the courts this spring.
Sorry to hear all that Wholinson. Good to hear you are on the mend. Keep fighting! :zsport23

Had a local funeral director jokingly once refer to our age group of coffee guys as “low sick”! Have a few of us still here and able to contribute! Hope you have a good post tonight. Illini desperate for a win tonight, and Hawkeyes are ripe for the pickin.

So what happened, up on Iowa by 20, turned channel and now it is tied midway second half. Typical way Illini season has gone.

Same thing that has cropped up in conference season a lot. Can't put two good halves together. Though admittedly Iowa shooting lights out from the free throw line helped the Hawkeyes get the win tonight.

I watched the first half and then moved on at halftime. Just now realizing the Illini managed to lose this game.
I'm a casual fan of the Illini, but that is a tough home loss.
Thanks J.J. for what I consider sound advice!

Give credit to Iowa for not giving up and catching fire. And the switch to the zone in the second half really confused the Illini freshmen. Foul trouble and sickness didn't help either. It was almost exactly 22 years ago where the Illini lost to Iowa after having a 20 point lead in the second half. It was the first year of the three point shot and Iowa couldn't miss in the second half.

I'm surprised how bad defensively this Brad Underwood coached team is. Opposing teams have a very high fg% against the Illini. Opposing teams are shooting a ton of free throws against the Illini. Damonte plays 27 minutes and does not get 1 steal. That is unacceptable. Thank goodness the Big10 schedule ends a week earlier this year. They are not even good enough for the NIT. Groce would have done a better job coaching than Underwood. They had Tillmon signed. They needed him badly this year. The lack of a good big man is killing this team. Brad Underwood = Lovie Smith. Just bad... :gagl

Both hires will work out imo. Lovie is being completely selfless fielding the youngest team in the country knowing his reputation/job security would take a hit. No quick fixes. Lovie’s playing the long game and building a program, not teams.

Underwood took SFA to 2 R32’s and within a bucket of the Sweet 16. He started 0-6 with OKST and got them to 9-9. Offensive efficiency stats are historically favorable to him and his teams improve beginning to end every year. He’s no flash in the pan like John Groce.

Offensive efficiency? How about teaching some defense and not letting opposing teams shoot =>50% fg & 100 pts. How about getting more free throw attempts than your opponents. How about teaching some effort and defending your man, taking some charges, creating turnovers, not giving up so many offensive rebounds. How about getting some steals and blocked shots. I see more problem with the defense than the offense right now. Iowa shot 50% fg & over 100pts. Michigan shoots 51% fg. Maryland shoots almost 60%. Is this the YMCA? Underwood needs to teach Defense 101 to the team this week for a start. Maybe he will get around to it?

Another game, another close loss for the Illini. Finke hits a 3 and gets fouled. Makes the FT and Illini go up 2. Nebraska comes down and hits a 3 with 0.3 left. Huskers win 64-63.

Illini travel to the Kohl Center Friday night to take on Wisconsin.

Watched last nights game and thought despite the tough loss, the guy made an incredible shot. The Illini defended well, made the guy shoot a shot that he probably makes 1/100. This game wasn’t like other close losses that they just gave away. Lots of positives to build on.

If nothing else, the freshmen are getting some much needed playing time and are developing pretty well. Trent Frazier looks like an absolute stud. I know some people are concerned about where Mark Smith is at this point but it is worth pointing out that both Malcolm Hill and Brandon Paul's freshman years didn't exactly set the world on fire and they turned out alright.

And they'll be getting a Wisconsin team coming in off a 28 point shellacking by Purdue in West Lafayette tonight.

Wisky might be a tougher game since they are coming off an embarrassing loss. (Did you know that Wisky is 4-40 in its last 44 games at West Lafayette?). I always feel like the best time to play a team is if they are coming off a big win and the worst time to play a team is if they are coming off a big loss. Wisky will be focused. I'll bet a lot of Wisky fans are wishing they had Dick Bennett as their coach.
