That AAU type coaches committed fraud, or that Adidas was targeted after they passed the Jordan brand? :bounce

Looks like the feds might be going after the lower level assistants in order to get them to roll over on the big fish.

Evans worked for Brad Underwood at the time...

The odd thing is I don’t think any of those schools where those guys work are Adidas schools are they?

This article goes a little deeper.

Pretty easy to determine one of the schools is Louisville and the recruit is most likely Brian Bowen.

Yes, and I'm guessing that the "private research university in Florida" is Miami.

I believe Louisville is involved from what I saw floating around on Twitter. They are an Adidas school.

Pitino regarding the luckiest recruiting victory of his career.

We got lucky on this one," Pitino told Meiners. "I had an AAU director call me and ask me if I'd be interested in a player. I saw him against another great player from Indiana. I said 'Yeah, I'd be really interested.' They had to come in unofficially, pay for their hotel, pay for their meals. We spent zero dollars recruiting a five-star athlete who I loved when I saw him play. In my 40 years of coaching this is the luckiest I've been."

Rick Pitino can’t possibly coach anymore right? I mean maybe he gets this year as a last hurrah but he can’t possibly survive FBI.

Question is will he retire or go NBA route one last time?

I would suggest fans of all teams to not laugh and gloat too much about any of this. Your team could be next...regardless of how virtuous you think they are.

True. And tough words from Emmert. Of course, meaningless, as the NCAA will just use their Penn State excuse to protect these big schools, "We don't have the power to do anything." But then as more information comes out, they will selectively dole out punishments.

Has anyone gloated yet? I haven't been on the Bradley forum to see reaction there yet.

Yep, bottom feeder programs will get punished severely while the blue blood programs and programs raking in the $$$ for the NCAA will get off with basically no punishment. How they havent responded to the UNC cheating scandal shows their true colors more than usual.

I don't think the FBI cares about blue blood programs and the money they make for the NCAA.

Defense 1: See players can't be trusted to be paid and money corrupts the purity of college athleticism.

Defense 2: It was the assistant coaches in charge of recruiting, we didn't know.

Defense 3: Everyone was doing it.

This will bring down all schools and sports if they really dig. How do people think so many Kenyan, Jamaican, Ethiopian, etc. track athletes end up at so many US colleges and not just the biggie's?

I wonder why all of a sudden the FBI has gotten involved in this cheating scandal and why there are not a lot more schools implicated as everyone pretty much knows the coach in Kentucky has done illegal things at pretty much every school he has been at over the years. The Fed-Ex money issue in Memphis should have done him in period.

The FBI isn't investigating cheating rather violation of federal laws. Evans, for instance, accepted bribes to steer players to a certain agent.

Coincidentally it may be cheating as defined by the NCAA but the FBI is involved due to violation of federal law.

It's not all of a sudden. This has been a work in progress for years. Now, they have people on tape and the investigation is full blown.

Again, the Feds don't give a rats *** about blue blood or otherwise. And if the IRS gets involved and wants their fair share, God help them.
