Championship Week 2018 Thread

Post by Bluejaygrad03 » Tue Feb 27, 2018 9:19 pm

Starting this thread with many of the low-major and mid-major conference tournaments (and some Power 5 conference in the Midwest for some reason) starting this week. The Atlantic Sun (1 seed Florida Gulf Coast) conference tournament started yesterday with the Big South (1 seed UNC Asheville) and the Patriot League (1 seed Bucknell) starting tonight. Other conference tournaments starting over the next few days include the B1G, Horizon League, MAAC, Missouri Valley, Northeast Conference, Ohio Valley Conference, Southern Conference, Summit League, and the West Coast Conference.

In the Atlantic Sun, NJIT was the only higher seed not to hold serve, losing to North Florida.

In the Big South, the 10 seed Longwood upset the 7 seed High Point and will face Radford in the quarterfinals.

In the Patriot League, they had their first round games tonight to determine who will face Bucknell and Colgate in the quarterfinals.

What's the reason for the Big10 starting a week early?

It's at MSG which is being used by other leagues next week.

Illini lose to Iowa 96-87. First time Illinois' season has ended prior to March 1 since 1946. In that particular season, they only played a 21 game schedule.

2 & 3 seeds go down on their home floors in the NEC Tournament, which either opens it wide open for top seed Wagner or we will have our first NIT team soon

EIU defeats Tennessee State 73-71. Panthers were up 9 points late but missed several free throws including four in the final seconds of the game.

Panthers will play the 3 seed Austin Peay at about 9 PM tomorrow night.

Not much of note happened in the conference tournament games today. 4 seed Campbell knocked out by 5 seed Liberty in the Big South tournament. 3 seed Navy and 4 seed Lehigh knocked out of the Patriot League tournament.

EIU knocked out of the OVC tournament tonight losing 73-66 to Austin Peay. It was a tale of two halves as the Panthers actually led 40-26 at half. Defensive pressure by the Govs wore down EIU as the game went on, especially in the 2nd half.

OVC semis will be Jacksonville State vs. Murray State and Belmont vs. Austin Peay.

And another year without an IU/Purdue match up in the BTT.

In the MVCt, Loyola, Bradley and SIU have all won. If ISUr beats ISUb, it would be an all-Illinois quarterfinals.

(And that rare occasion when a team from Illinois gets invited to March Madness)

If there is a God, Rutgers is going to win 5 games in 5 days. Please. I need this in my life.
That's enough, Reggie Miller.

That's enough, Chris Webber.

All Illinois semifinal in the Valley ensures at least 1 team from the state will be in the Dance. Over the last 5 seasons, only Northwestern (2017) and Illinois (2013) have made an appearance (one each).

Their 1-seed lost in the quarters last year too. Motor City Madness has been an absolute disaster over there.

Jim Les has won his 2nd Big West regular season title, and UC Davis is ensured of at least an NIT appearance.

Loyola defeats Illinois State 65-49 to win the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. It is the Ramblers' 6th overall appearance, their first since 1985, when the school was still in the then Midwestern City Conference (later Midwestern Collegiate Conference, now known as the Horizon League).
