March Madness 2018 Thread

Post by Bluejaygrad03 » Sun Mar 11, 2018 5:53 pm

Brackets are out. Time to start the thread.

Thoughts on top 4 seeds in each region?
Biggest surprise in terms of seeding?
Biggest issue with the bracket as a whole?
Biggest snub among those who didn't get in?

Of course anything and everything tournament related is worth discussing in here.

Why is Texas in with 14 losses? 19-14 record. Texas lost to Michigan by 7 at Texas. Nebraska beat Michigan by 20 in the regular season. Nebraska lost to Kansas by 1 point. Nebraska was 13-5 in the Big Ten Season. They were 22-10 overall. If you have 14 losses you should not be in the tourney. The Big Ten is getting squeezed by the NCAA. Why? Alabama has 15 losses. They lost to Minnesota for P Sake. Please... Don't get me started about Syracuse. The Selection show on TBS was amateur hour. Why is the Creighton Bluejay AD heading the selection committee? Joke! Missouri gets in? The SEC is getting way too much respect. I will be hardly watching. There is a lot of bu//hockey going on out there.
I do my best thinking on the bus. That's how come I don't drive. I don't want to know how. I don't want to learn. See? The more you drive, the less intelligent you are.

Texas RPI was 51, Nebraska was 56. Texas was 6-11 versus Quadrant 1 teams, Nebraska just 1-6 versus Quadrant 1. The Big Ten was way down this year, hence only five games for Nebraska against the four Big Ten NCAA Tournament teams. Not a great non-conference schedule for Nebraska either.

Alabama actually performed even better against Quadrant 1 teams going a very solid 7-7. That’s huge! And losing to Nebraska based on their RPI was not a bad loss at all, despite Nebraska being relegated to the NIT. Missouri was 5-7 versus Quadrant 1 teams and finished tied for fourth in a very stacked SEC this year, as well.

It seems like all of these teams were deserving of their bids this year even over Nebraska. But I do agree with you that the TBS Selection Show coverage was a joke!

In all fairness it was Minnesota with Lynch and Coffey and Alabama did go 3-on-5 for about 12 minutes.

Just putting this out there, the Big 10 might've had their worst season in the modern era this year.
That's enough, Reggie Miller.

That's enough, Chris Webber.

St. Mary's was 40th RPI. W. Kentucky was 39th. Middle Tenn. was 33rd. Why aren't they all in if that is the standard we all should be going by? Are you just parroting what you read about said Quadrant 1 b/s? Can you type exactly what Quadrant 1 means without looking it up? I know you are going to look it up. Don't even bother...

Ted Valentine will not be assigned to any NCAA Tournament games, and he believes it is fallout from the Joel Berry episode:

Will the Ball family be to Steve Alford at UCLA what Pierre Pierce was to him at Iowa?
I favor capital punishment. But there are alot of cases where I don't think capital punishment applies (parking violations) and cases where it should be applied (murder, child molestation, illegal HS football recruiting).- BirdWatcher

Certainly seem to be. Though I could see Texas Southern just have been bleeding the clock late, especially with how NC Central had trouble scoring.

Syracuse won in spite of continually giving the ball to Chukwu in the final minute. Give the big guy credit, though, as he made 3 of 4 FTs after being 0 of 3 earlier.

How about Boeheim being livid his guy made final FT to go up 4? I get missing sometimes but in that case if you try to make it you either go up 4 or get the miss that requires opponent to make a full court shot in :00.4 seconds.

Also what could Hurley possibly plan with 0:00.4 left? He even shrugged once players left the huddle.
