Metamora will struggle with stopping Washington's run game. On top of that, I do think that Washington will throw a little more than they have this season. IMO, Washington has the more complete team then Metamora. If Washington controls the clock and can run the ball like they have they will win this one relatively easily. Washington +21

I get the hoopla over this game, it's Metamora vs Washington and what more, they're both undefeated. But, as far as "Game of the Week" goes, IMHO, I humbly disagree. One team is going to be 9-0 eventually, the other 8-1 and both will host first round playoff games. Washington has been pinned for 9-0 since this group was Freshmen and other than the fact Metamora was 4-5 last year, 8-1 would be a wonderful turnaround and it's not as if a successful Football season in Metamora is that big of a stretch.

When you look at the slate of games this week in the area, large & small school, IMO, there are many more games that are "bigger", or just as big, as this one. Washington's and Metamora playoff fate has been determined. There are so many other local schools whose future will be decided this week & next. Turn in the pads after week 9 or suit up for one more week. That's freaking huge!!!! Watch Mattson's & Pegler's team previews again. What's the #1 mantra? "We wanna make the playoffs!" Again, for many local schools, those dreams will either be shattered, kept alive, or secured this week.

To be honest, Manual/Urbana has more allure to me than Metamora/Washington. Go ahead and laugh. I get it. I know y'all will call me nuts. But, this will be these kids Super Bowl, esp. for the Seniors. This is their one & only chance to get a "W" for 2018. No offense, but, Urbana is not going to beat NW week 9 nor is Manual going to beat Cham. Central. This is it!!!! Barring death or dismemberment, I will be at this game Saturday. Can't wait to see the pure joy of the victor & my heart will go out to the team that comes up short.
You can dismiss this game any way you want but this is the biggest Mid-Illini game that Malone Field has ever hosted. It is the biggest game the field has seen since the 2009 Rochester semifinal. Never have these two schools played so late in the season with unbeaten records. Never have these schools played so late in the season with a conference title on the line. Sure, quite a bit of this is due to the Mid-Illini putting this game in week eight instead of week three of four where it would have been seen as an early season test but not the epic game it will be come Friday night.

As for Urbana and Manual, I am glad this game brings you excitement. But let's not over hype how much the game means to the kids. I have played on crap teams and I can tell you that most of the kids are more than ready to get the season over with and move on to basketball, wrestling, or whatever in their life comes up next. Considering the lack of importance football has with these schools I am guessing that few if any kids have had this game marked on their calendar all year long. Win the game, so what? That still does not make them a good team nor does it make up for the beatings they have taken during the course of the year. Whether the Washington-Metamora game is close or a blow out people will remember it years from now. How about naming the greatest IVC-East Peoria game from 1984-2005 if you were not a player, parent, or fan of either school?

Thought so.

Looking forward to Friday....real football weather. Malone will be rocking
Currently weatherchannel.com says 46 degrees with evening showers. Malone will not be rocking. Malone will be empty. If this was the playoffs, loser goes home, maybe. Fans are NOT going to sit in cold @$$ rain for a week 8 game no matter what the circumstances.

Have you completely lost your mind or is this pure sarcasm? Metamora and washington fans are going to sit home because it's going to be a little chilly? There will people from all over the area wanting to watch this rival game. Obviously washington has the advantage in this one but stranger things have happened when these 2 play each other. Yes I'm a metamora fan and yes I'm picking Washington. I'll have to agree with reggie, this is the biggest game at malone in years.

This will be the 9th time in the last 22 years that Metamora and Washington have met while both were unbeaten. However, 7 of those times were in weeks 2, 3, or 4.

The only other time in the last 22 years that Metamora and Washington played relatively late in the season when both were unbeaten? 2000 week 6. Both were 5-0. Final score at Babcook: Metamora 70, Washington 14.

I don't believe we will see that result this year.

When Pat Ryan speaks makes a quote I sit up and read it carefully.
"Best Washington team in three decades" says Ryan.
Ya the birds will be somewhat outmatched maybe on the field physically speaking... However, no team in the state as far as this poster is concerned is better prepared being tough mentally.
I had heard a few former players for da birds talk about Pat's pre-game pep talks ...but to see the one played on the video board before games this year at Malone, well all I can say is Pat if your looking for something to do after retiring someday I hear the motivational speaking circuit pays really good.
You'd be darn great at it coach!
Go birds!

Cant believe this Board is so quiet on the Birds-Panthers match. Where is Birdwatcher when we need him? Been going downhill ever since he left. Last I heard he was playing 3 musical instruments ,singing to horses, and running for Mayor, and trying to develop a hillbilly accent.

Anyword on moving this game to Peoria Stadium? You can fit more people there. Not to mention the nostalgic atmosphere it would create! Tongue in Cheek folks! I have a wedding rehersal or I would definitely be there.

The game I remember was a playoff game, perhaps against Cahokia or O’Fallon at Malone. GBG marched the mayor of the visitors out onto the field pre game! They had met by chance at Casey’s. I can’t make a story up like that.

That's sort of funny! I thought BW retired from CAT and moved to Tennessee - or am I wrong? I had the pleasure of meeting the great BW (he was talking pictures) at a Pekin-Metamora game many moons ago.I do miss BW and many others that have drifted in and out from these board over the last 15 years or so. Though I feel that Washington will win by a decent margin tonight, I hope instead that the game will go down to the wire - that would be awesome! Two great coaches, two outstanding undefeated teams, two fantastic programs, late season showdown, big rivalry and two excellent fan bases. Couldn't ask for more than that :td

My gosh, the fame of that one play still stands forty plus years later in the annals of high school football! :D But East Peoria-Pekin is NOT Washington-Metamora my friend! :td
