Large School Cal Preps Projections 2018

Post by Bluejaygrad03 »

I've posted the projections on these boards the past several years and they've been a good discussion point for many of us. As always, these projections are used to be as more of a discussion point than anything else. So here's the projections for the large school conferences in central Illinois, including the toughest games for those schools they see as going undefeated this season:

Big Twelve
Normal Community 9-0 (Toughest game will be Week 4 vs. Naperville Neuqua Valley)
Normal West 8-1
Peoria Notre Dame 6-3
Peoria Richwoods 6-3
Danville 5-4
Bloomington 5-4
Peoria Central 4-5
Champaign Centennial 2-7
Champaign Central 2-7
Urbana 2-7
Peoria Manual 0-9

Central State Eight
SHG 8-1
Rochester 8-1
Chatham Glenwood 7-2
Springfield High 5-4
Decatur MacArthur 5-4
Southeast 3-6
Normal U-High 3-6
Lanphier 3-6
Decatur Eisenhower 1-8
Jacksonville 1-8

Illini Prairie Conference
Tolono Unity 8-1
Monticello 8-1
Bloomington Central Catholic 6-3
St. Joseph-Odgen 5-4
Pontiac 5-4
IVC 4-5
Fairbury Prairie Central 4-5
Rantoul 2-7
Champaign St. Thomas More 2-7
Stanford Olympia 0-9

Mid-Illini
Dunlap 8-1
Washington 8-1
Morton 7-2
Metamora 5-4
Pekin 5-4
Canton 4-5
East Peoria 2-7
Limestone 1-8

Western Big 6
Quincy 7-2

Rock Island Alleman 5-4

Let me guess how we get to this scenario:

Either Springfield High or MacArthur upset Glenwood, which upsets Rochester, which beats SHG again (in another classic), which running clocks SHS again, narrowly avoids a MacArthur upset, and beats Glenwood (again) but with no running clock this year.

Bloomington 5-4, 6-3 at worst.

Interesting prediction for Dunlap who replaces A LOT of pieces to the puzzle from last year.
I’m actually interested in your predictions for this season.

Haven’t heard much about Morton over the summer. Now that practice has begun, perhaps will hear more. IMO They would have to improve defense and overall numbers to go 8-1.

Obviously these are "for novelty use only'. But a few observations:
Big 12
Normal Community 9-0 (New coach but should be the class of the B12 again)
Normal West 8-1 (8-1/7-2 seems about right)
Peoria Notre Dame 6-3 (I'd say the Irish are in the 6-3/5-4 range)
Peoria Richwoods 6-3 (Knights lose a TON I'm going to say 4-5/5-4 but leaning towards missing the playoffs)
Danville 5-4 (Vikings should be in the playoff hunt at 6-3/5-4)
Bloomington 5-4 (Purple Raiders with yet another head coach. 5-4/4-5 sounds about right)
Peoria Central 4-5 (Biggest head scratcher in the conf. I'll say 9-0/7-2 ange)
All teams below probably aren't playoff bound.
Champaign Centennial 2-7
Champaign Central 2-7
Urbana 2-7
Peoria Manual 0-9

Mid-Illini (should be a VERY fun year for MI fans. A lot of talent at the top)
Dunlap 8-1 (Lose a lot. 6-3 perhaps in a rebuilding year)
Washington 8-1 (8-1/9-0 seems about right)
Morton 7-2 (Potters return a ton should make another deep playoff run)
Metamora 5-4 (Never sleep on the Redbirds. They will push the top 3 teams and make the playoffs)
Pekin 5-4 (Dragons always seem to be hard to figure out. 5-4 is probably a safe prediction)
Canton 4-5 (4-4/5-4 seems about right for a year with a lot of talented teams in the MI)
East Peoria 2-7
Limestone 1-8

I think washington returns a few players as well  since they are predicted to lose 1 game, who might that be?

Looks like Calpreps has it as probably Morris.

Morris is week 2. Mahomet Seymour is week 1. But still a tough win

Washington losing one game doesn't seem far fetched - Morris is going to really good this year, Morton, Metamora or even Dunlap could certainly pull off an upset win although with Morton it might not be an upset - they are loaded this year it would seem. I could easily see Washington going 9-0 but 8-1 or even 7-2 is not beyond possibility....

Yeah Calpreps has Washington as a slight underdog vs. Morris. They have them at about a 2-1 favorite over Dunlap with the only other teams they even give a chance against the Panthers are Morton (4-1 favorite) and Metamora (though it's a fairly small chance for the Redbirds).

Especially with that crown Morris has on that field.

Watched Washington Saturday and was pleased at all 3 levels. Numbers at freshman level were very high, most I've ever seen. Varsity looks solid on both sides of the ball. Looking forward to road trip week 2 with my son

. I don't believe it has changed. For those that are in to it directly across the street from the Redskin stadium is a small park with limited parking where all the tailgaters from both schools hang out early before the game.

I’m actually interested in your predictions for this season.
Mid Illini Conference:

Washington 7-0
Morton 6-1
Pekin 5-2
Dunlap 4-3
Metamora 3-4
Canton 2-5
East Peoria 1-6
Limestone 0-7
Most people won’t agree with us but I agree on your pick with Morton. I predicted a good season with Morton last year and I believe they will do good again. Next year not so much. It bothers me to say this but I agree 100% on your picks other than Metamora possibility pulling off a 6-3.

Interesting, I can understand the increased confidence in the Birds after 2 impressive wins but what caused the big drop with Morton?

At this point I am a little bit more impressed with Morton than Dunlap. The Eagles beat a very bad Mt. Vernon team while Dunlap struggled against Galesburg who was manhandled by an okay Geneseo team Friday (Geneseo lost to Moline 36-3 week before) . So it's hard to know what Dunlap exactly has. Morton's offense was impressive against a below average Streator and their defense was very good against average La-Salle Peru. Overall I think Morton is a dangerous team this year! The Pekin-Dunlap game will show what each team is about. Two years ago Pekin got blown out by Sterling but came back and handled Dunlap. Last year obviously Dunlap had easy win. This game will be a HUGE one for Pekin. I know most will predict an easy win for Dunlap but I really think Pekin has a chance to beat the Eagles. But if Pekin loses, I don't see them going to the playoffs as they will not in no way beat Washington, Morton and Metamora. I think Metamora was very impressive in both their wins although neither team is very good. What has happened to Rock Island? The Rocks have become a mediocre program - they are in danger of missing the playoffs again this year. Finally I predict Morton and Metamora will score 50+ points on Pekin this year while Washington will beat Pekin by 40+ points! Good day to all!! :td

Might end up that way but I don't see Pekin beating Morton and certainly not Metamora or Washington. So I would put Pekin at 3-4 and Morton at 5-2 (assuming the beat Dunlap). Morton's offense put up 66 points last year on Pekin (that's right a 66-44 win!) - the Dragons just don't know how to defense Morton's new offense and the Potters return the same skill players that ran all over Pekin last year. I see same thing this Friday. Heck, I don't even know if Pekin can beat Canton this year. Two great games I think will be Morton-Dunlap and Metamora-Washington. Metamora really impresses me thus far. Last week Metamora man handled Rock Island while last night the Rocks beat Peoria Central. I really think Metamora has a decent chance of beating Washington. I can see Dunlap/Morton keeping in a game against Metamora/Washington but I don't see them beating either. But hey that is why you play the games!

1)RI beating Peoria High last night didn't shock me nearly as much as Morton only beating Canton 33-15. RI has two really good tackles and their FB is a ton. Rain is a great neutralizer. Sloppy night, sloppy field, played right into RI's strength and limited Peoria High's "shiftiness". Metamora plays RI last night in that wind & rain, much different outcome, IMHO, than last week.
CIS wrote: Sat Sep 08, 2018 12:08 pmI really think Metamora has a decent chance of beating Washington.
I'll let ya know when the Birds' are a 'lil more battle tested.
Morton only beating Canton 33-15 isn’t really a shock considering Canton’s game plan. Their QB is 6’-3” 200+ lbs and all the backs lined up between the tackles. The QB had 46 carries. The plan was keep Morton’s offense on the sideline.
Time of possession was definitely in Canton’s favor.
Morton fumbled once and gave Canton a short field for their 2nd score in the first half. Morton scored on every other possession except one, if I remember correctly.
Maybe two?

I think Metamora/Morton is a toss up, but other than that, spot on.
