IHSA CC Regionals

Post by RedRun »

Anybody notice there are Regionals this weekend... EP and Notre Dame are hosting...

EP Regionals is LOADED on the boys side... UHigh, Metamora and the seemingly-invincible Mahomet-Seymour. You have the M-S guys, Gillum and Franklin, plus Michael Church up front...

ND Regionals has Dunlap, Washington and ND in the girls race... Dunlap is LOADED on the girls, and will be even deeper next year with a bunch of talented 8th graders (and 7th!) coming over soon.

Dunlap girls didn't run top five runners. Still got third.

That's a great finish if none are top 5, but why? Are they rehabbing injuries and a muddy course is a problem? Avoiding illnesses? Gilbert certainly didn't need to run for ND to qualify, but she was there. Made for a fun day for Washington, I guess .

The regionals are a waste of time. The sectional courses are large enough you could run everyone at sectional and have done with.

Not sure of the reason either. I was thinking they did it to give some runners a reward for running this season. Avoiding injuries, as you suggested is just as likely. No doubt they will be at full strength for sectionals.

If you have depth on your team then there is no reason to run your top runners at a Regional. Give them a nice rest for Sectionals, get over any season long aches, and avoid any injuries. The PND Regional was not quite as loaded as the EP regional so achieving top 6 would not be a challenge for a team with depth. Hence why Dunlap Girls can run without their Top 5 and Dunlap boys can run without 3 Top 7 runners.
