State meet local predictions

Post by 225guy »

Lets here them
Dunlap girls I predict win. I guess fran runs with miranda, abby, Alyhuh, thru 2 miles to help ensure 4 girls excute plan correctly. So I can 17:35 fran, abby 17:42, miranda 17:47, Alyhuh 17:52 all all staters. Dunlap fifth girl meme/rilley around 18:30's. Yorkville seemed to peak at first to Finnish plus some injuries. MJ 5:16/1033/15:54! ND & washington both top ten. Metamora girl grabs 25th spot.
Boys side Gillum 14:52 and top 10. Church top 20 and 15:03, carr 1506 and fortin 15:07 both top 25 too.

I'm still going to take Yorkville, but Dunlap is a definite second place. Also, I think Dunlap's #5 runner is closer to 18:10 than 18:30.
MJG 16:02

Metamora boys will take top 6 teamwise, and PND will be top 15. Could be top 6 if a decent 5 runner. UHigh will contend for team trophy with Franklin being a favorite individually.
Franklin 14:40 Gillum 14:50 Church 14:59 Fortin 15:03 Carr 15:05

I assume that the girls and boys teams do not run the same workouts, as they are on two different levels of competition. The girls team would be training for peaking at the state meet while the boys should have trained to peak at the sectional in order to make state.

I think Pendergast runs faster than MJG.
My guess is MJG 16:14 and Pendergast 16:02.

I'm guessing both go sub-16

Current weather forecast seems to suggest pretty fast conditions for Saturday.
Rain chances ending late Thursday to early Friday, with Saturday being sunny in the low to mid-50s and wind under 10 mph with gusts of under 15 mph.

2A Girls
Team: As good as Dunlap has been this year, Yorkville has been dominate. It would take a big off day from Yorkville or an amazing day from Dunlap to be able to beat them tomorrow. I disagree that Yorkville peaked too early, I heard they have been training for NXN after state, so I think they are just now peaking. They also seem completely healthy, they have the same top 5 running around where they did back at FTTF. Vernon Hills and Belvidere North should battle for 3rd.
1) Yorkville 2) Dunlap 3) Vernon Hills 4) Belvidere North
Individual: Unless something goes terribly wrong, this is obviously Gilbert's race. She has dominated all year yet again, the question is how fast will she go. I think she will be just shy of 16, but I hope I am wrong! I'm going to predict Appino and Lutzow battle for 2nd, but there are a lot of other quality runners close behind.
1) Gilbert (PND) 2) Appino (Boylan) 3) Lutzow (Belvidere North)
2A Boys
Team: The battle here is most likely between Mahomet and Grayslake Central, with Yorkville ending their run of state championships placing third. I'll go with Grayslake Central over Mahomet by 1 point. It is really close, these teams are very similar top to bottom, it comes down to who has the better day. Ill pick Yorkville for 3rd over Darien Hinsdale South and UHigh.
1) Grayslake Central 2) Mahomet 3) Yorkville 4) UHigh
Individual: Not a clear favorite here like the girls race. I'll go with Aho (Grayslake Central) over what will probably be a sizeable group of contenders.
1) Aho (Grayslake Central) 2) Franklin (UHigh) 3) Nodus (Hinsdale South)

All I can say is what a monumental collapse. I'm in shock. Only one pr's out of 7 the last two state meets. This is not acceptable. It's not training it's mental approach to crunch time. Something is missing. I believe every meet b4 sectionals that Friday lots more distance not easy day. Run them tired. Then cut mileage add some more speed and keep things quicker in practice the last two weeks. U can circle only one race the rest don't matter. That's how mentally they will pr the last meet. During the race they excited to pr each mile instead of hearing a slow state split and quiting.

Yes – I will confess I have not followed the team standings that closely the season, certainly not statewide. But Yorkville's fourth runner was within five seconds of Dunlap's first. That has to be a shock if you're aiming for the title. And PND was within 1 several seconds per runner on #2-5 of passing by Dunlap. Something is not working out there.

What happened to Miranda Kruiswyk? She would have made a difference, but probably not enough to get a trophy.

It happens at state. This is why I correctly predicted that Gilbert would be 16:20's as opposed to sub 16. At state runners may push harder than they should early and pay for it in the end. My guess is that Gilbert went for sub 16 and paid for it. The only way Dunlap had a shot at a title was running out of their minds. If that is what they tried to do, it back fired which happens.

Look at Church and even Carr today on the boys side. Very likely the same thing same with Keeble from Mahomet who fell to second on his team even.

Even pros don't risk going for records in championship races because the crash and burn risk is high.

To be fair on my earlier post, Carr ran pretty well today. He was 20 seconds behind Gillum which is around where he has been at some races.

Redbird xc fan, u got some very solid points...
Jmc, miranda had blood sugar problem, diabetes. If miranda ran next to johnson 65 points fewer dunlap would got 4th. No way thats anyones fault. Thats just diabetes. Congrats to Gillum 1451 as a junior is great.. next year!!!

Unity the 1A boys champs would have gotten a close second in 2A and top 5 in 3A. Top 5 were 15:09 or less.

I just wondered what happened that she didn't score. She obviously started because Dunlap wouldn't have run only 6 if she was not healthy before the race. Hard enough to run C/C but to do it at a high level while fighting diabetes is an admirable accomplishment. No one said there was any fault with anyone. You are correct, even if she had run her normal times, Dunlap would have finished 4th. They didn't have a good day. It happens.
