Morton- Led by IMO All-Stater, Wisconsin-Milwaukee signee 6'0" G/F Brandi Bisping; Major contributions from 6'0" Soph. G Tenley Dowell, 5'3" Jr. Gs Kassidy Shurman, Josi Becker. All are excelllent 3 pt. shooters; Play outstanding defense Morton is noted for.

Peoria Central- Ranked #10 in 3A Poll; #3 in last PJ Star area rankings behind AP #1 ranked Morton and #6 ranked Richwoods (Limestone Sectional going to be a monster). Led by All-Conference Bradley recruit 5'10" G Jailynn Lawson.

Rockford Auburn - 2-10 per MaxPreps; 4A school, 1808 enrollment. It is Auburn, Illinois that is ranked #10 in 2A.

Tonight: Peoria Central. Sophs.-5:00 Varsity-6:30

According to Aaron Ferguson of the PJStar, in Preps Daily, Coach Meechie Edwards is pleased with the growth of two players:
Mackenzie Jenkins 5'11" F-"Jenkins comes in and works before and after practice....She can pass, dribble, and shoot. Not many girls her size can do that."
Derria Edwards- One of the fastest players in the area; beginning to learn how to use it. "She's starting to find her rhythm, and is beginning to change her speeds".

Central's quickness has always bothered Galesburg. They press full court. Galesburg probably hasn't been able to devote hardly any practice time preparing for it.

Peoria Central 46 Galesburg 34
http://www.galesburg.com/sports/2017011 ... ions-46-34

Cntrl 10-21-29-46
Gales 08-10-22-34

Announcer's Stats
Kaylah-13 pts., 5 2 pt. FGs, 3-5 FTs, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal
Kylie-6 pts., 1 2 pt. FG, 4-4 FTs, 7 rebounds, 1 assist
Milroy-6 pts., 2 3 pt. FGs, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
Junk-3 pts., 1 2 pt. FG, 1-2 FTs, 3 rebounds
Mienert- 3 pts., 1 2 pt. FG, 3 rebounds
Sampson-3 pts., 1 3 pt. FG, 1 rebound, 1 assist

8-17 2 pt. FGs, 3-16 3 pt. FGs, 9-13 FTs, Rebounds- Gales 25(5) Central 19(2)- I question these numbers, TOs- Gales 17 Central 9

-Central too quick, too athletic; Galesburg was outmatched in quickness and/or size at every position.
-Central pressed almost entire game; didn't generate a lot of TOs, but Gales had to expend a lot of energy getting the ball past mid-court; takes it's toll as game progresses. In the halfcourt, Central's quickness was stifling.
-Gales forced to play quicker than they wanted.
-Lawson never really looking to score; got others involved, let the game come to her except when Central had to score; then just took the ball and scored-3 pter., mid-range jumper, off the dribble.
-Times when Gales was right with Central, even had a couple runs in 2nd half; but expended so much energy, slight letdown, Central would go on run right back. For Galesburg to have any chance to beat Central, would have to play at their maximum for 32 mins..
-2nd Qtr.-Hanging in there at 14-10, slight letdown, Central on 7-0 run to finish qtr 21-10.
-3rd Qtr.- Kaylah started qtr. on personal 6-0 run 21-16 at 5:13; Central came back with 5-0 run 26-16 at 4:22; around 2:00 Milroy '3' finished a 5-0 run 26-21; Lawson took the ball to the hole, 3 pt. play 29-21.
-4th Qtr.-Milroy '3' 31-25; Central 5-0 run to 36-25 at 5:31; expanded lead late 46-34.
-Central's constant pressure just wore Gales down- Milroy 32 mins., Kaylah about 30.
-Only 3 Central players scored:
Lawson- 21 pts- Kaylah is a quick, sound defender, but was simply out-matched physically-giving away a good 5 inches and probably 20 lbs...
Edwards- 14 pts- By far the quickest player on the floor; Sampson is a good defensive player, but just couldn't keep up with her.
Jenkins- 11 pts- Total mismatch vs. Junk.

Post-game, Massey said most of 1st half, full-court pressure was speeding them up, causing them to make poor choices in the half-court......Better in 2nd half once they got Kaylah and Kylie handling the ball a lot more. They got some things driving to the basket, kick-outs, backdoor.

Galesburg won 40-37. One of the other guys will have to give details, but sounded like Morton had turnover bug/Galesburg played great team D.

Morton 54 Central 53

Mid 2nd qtr. Lawson(13 pts.) leaves game with ankle injury. Central pressed entire game; quickness gave Morton problems.

Don't know anything about U-High and Notre Dame.

A real possibility Tournament Championship decided on tiebreaker-fewest pts. allowed(wonderfull).

So, here is as best as I can figure out this cockamamie tournament.
Today
U-High beat Notre Dame
Morton beat Central
Galesburg beat St. Thomas More
Bloomington beat Lincolnway
Central beat Rockford Auburn
Lincolnway beat St. Thomas More
Morton beat Notre Dame
U-High beat Rockford Auburn
Galesburg beat Bloomington

What we have at this moment is: U-High, Morton, Galesburg, and Bloomington all with one loss(but Bloomington has not played U-High, Central, or Morton).
Bloomington still has to play at Notre Dame on Tuesday, according to the schedule.
The announcers were trying to figure up the points against for each team. They thought U-High would have the fewest.

According to Massey, all the teams with the same record would be declared Co-Champions. The team with the fewest points allowed gets the trophy.

Okay, now everything is crystal clear, right?

That is strange.......the tied teams didn't even play the same teams......looks like Galesburg and UHigh had an easier schedule. How many teams were actually in the tournament and did all of them play 5 games? Wow......maybe they will have to use some Statistics students from Knox College to figure it out.....need to add a "schedule" factor too. Is there a private school factor like football?
