Massey- "...Mattoon the class of the field..undefeated....In our pool, Salem always good-likes to spread floor and challenge you to get out on floor and guard them...Sullivan well-coached..given us trouble in the past".

Pool A- Galesburg(10-2 or 9-3 depending on Notre Dame game), Sullivan(4-5), Salem(4-7), Decatur MacArthur(2-9).
Pool B-Mattoon(13-0), Olney(6-5), Effingham St. Anthony(9-4), Vandalia(2-6).
Records per MaxPreps.
I'm going to bite my tongue.

Mattoon
Size- Thompson 5'11" G/F(could be their best player), MacDonald 5'11" F, Lee 5'11" F, Coffey 5'9" G/F
Very tough G- 5'6" Jackson

Galesburg's Schedule
Tues. Dec. 27
10:00 am vs. Sullivan
4:30 pm- vs. Salem
Wed. Dec. 28
8:30am- vs. MacArthur
*7:00 pm- vs. 2nd place in Pool B
Thurs. Dec. 29
*7:30 pm- Championship Game
*If Galesburg isn't in these games, someone should appoint a Special Prosecutor.

This year, the zebras better clean up the games. Last year, players were knocked to the floor, elbowed to the head, heavy hand-checking and riding the ball handler to the point of tempers flaring. Gully and Florine came away beat up and it took at least a week to get healthy. Several of the coaches lodged complaints with the Tournament Director. We'll see if anything comes of it.

Galesburg came into this tournament three years ago, and has won the tournament every year. I'm sure it's an understatement to say that the other teams are pretty tired of that.

Thompson is Mattoon's best player, signed with Bowling Green. Great athlete. She is not their only option though. Mattoon may give the Streaks a game this year. Very solid.

Some of the other teams seem to be down this year, it should be Galesburg-Mattoon final pretty easily. Galesburg has the easier road.

13-19 2 pt. FGs, 5-18 3 pt. FGs, 10-14 FTs, rebounds- Gales 29(6) St. Anth. 19(6), TOs- Gales 8 ST. Anth. 16

1st Qtr.
-SA 2-3 zone
-Slow half court game
-SA very deliberate offensively; zone forced Galesburg to take a lot of time getting shots.
-Gales poor 3 pt. shooting
2nd Qtr. -At 11-9, 8-0 run to finish qtr.
Halftime- Sampson 7 pts., Kylie 5 pts., Junk 3 pts., Milroy 2 pts., Kaylah 2 pts., 5-10 2 pt. FGs, 1-11 3 pt. FGs, 6-8 FTs, rebounds- Gales 14(4) St, Anth. 13(2), TOs- Gales 4 St. Anth. 9
3rd Qtr.
-Started breaking down zone off dribble.
-First minute- Kaylah rolled ankle, did not return.
-At 19-11, Gales on 13-1 run rest of qtr.; Milroy 3 3 pt. FGs.
4th Qtr.
-8-0 run to 40-12; 21-1 run from about 6:00 mark of 3rd qtr. to 4:15 of 4th qtr.
-At 3:06 43-15; SA coach takes out starters; Massey then empties Gales bench; SA coach seemed a little miffed that Massey didn't remove starters first.

In this scenario, who should empty bench first?

Gales 09-18-26-40
Mattn 12-17-28-45
http://www.galesburg.com/sports/2016122 ... at-mattoon

Kaylah didn't play. Sampson had to match up with Jackson instead. Mienert started, Kylie moved to Kaylah's spot. Chockley and Mixon had to play major minutes; 24 hrs. to adjust to losing one of your two top players.

Announcer's Stats
Kylie-9 pts., 3 2 pt. FGs, 3-4 FTs, 6 rebounds 2 assists
Milroy-19 pts., 1 2 pt. FG, 5 3 pt. FGs, 2-2 FTs, 3 rebounds, 1 assist
Junk-4 pts., 1 2 pt. FG, 2-2 FTs, 6 rebounds, 1 assist
Meinert-4 pts., 4-4 FTs, 8 rebounds, 1 assist
Mixon-4 pts., 2 2 pt. FGs, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Sampson- 4 rebounds, 2 assists
Lingafelter- 2 rebounds, 1 assist
Chockley-1 rebound

7-27 2pt. FGs,5-17 3 pt. FGs, 11-12 FTs, rebounds-Gales 38(12) Mattoon 19(1), TOs-Gales 10 Mattoon 5
With as much size as Mattoon has, they should rebound a lot better. At 5'11", Meinert is the only one of Galesburg's top 7 taller than 5'7".

1st Qtr.
-Back-and-forth
-Galesburg fouls- Kylie 3, Junk 2, Meinert 2
-At 10-9, Kylie called for foul on Jackson's long shot beyond midcourt with clock running down; Jackson 2 FTs at :0.1.
2nd Qtr.
-12-12 on Milroy 3pter
-17-16-Jackson FT
-18-17 Milroy 2 FTs
3rd Qtr.
-G out to 22-17
-M rallied to 26-23 at 2:00
-Meinert- 4th foul, Mixon in
-26-26 on Milroy 3pter at 1:30
-28-26 Jackson layup
4th Qtr.
-M-Jackson(dribble penetration) or Thompson(post up) scored all of M's pts. except final 2 FTs.
-M out to 34-28
-34-31 on Milroy 3pter at 5:25
-36-34 on Milroy 3 pter at 4:30
-M- to 42-36
-Sampson- knee injury-hit floor after bump on lay-up attempt
-Meinert-5th foul
-43-36 Jackson FT
-43-38 on Mixon layup at :36
-G-Press
-Thompson missed FT at :31
-43-40 on Kylie layup at :19
-Jackson off. foul
-Milroy short on 3 pter
-Kylie 5th foul
-M- 2 FTs 45-40 final

Next-Thurs. at Rock Island, probably without 2 starters. Happy thought. Probably won't hear anything about Sampson until game preview article middle of the week; didn't look good.
