Salem 30 Galesburg 27
http://www.galesburg.com/sports/2017122 ... rney-games

Salem 03-08-19-30
Gales 06-15-24-27

Announcer’s Stats
Legge-2 reb, 3 assists, 4 steals, 1 block
McCarthy-2 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 1 reb, 4 steals, 1 block
Sampson-4 pts., 2 2pt. FGs, 5 reb, 1 steal
Meinert-2 pts., 7 reb, 2 assists, 2 steals
Mixon-8 pts., 4 2pt. FGs, 0-2 FTs,14 reb, 2 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks
Range-3 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 1-2 FTs, 2 reb 1 block
Campbell-5 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 1 3pt. FG, 2 reb, 1 steal
Lingafelter-3 pts., 1 3pt. FG 1 reb
10-35 2pt. FGs, 2-15 3pt. FGs, 1-6 FTs, Reb- Gales 36(21) Salem 33(13), TOs- Gales 23 Salem 23

-Inexcusable.
-23-12 lead mid 3rd qtr.; Salem 18-4 run rest of game.
-3-pt.4th qtr. (Campbell 3pter.)-total collapse; taking bad shots, turning down open shots; complete loss of poise, mental toughness; very poor response when things went bad; this has happened several times before this season; some just didn’t show up with the game on the line.

Massey Postgame: …Played poorly…Poor decisions…This isn’t close to the best team we played all year…It really stinks because looking at our schedule after Christmas…it may not be that we have many games that are always winnable. This was one that was winnable…I challenged them…I thought at different times where individually they didn’t give to the team…by that I’m saying we were…poor, poor me, and that showed up.”

Galesburg 64 Sullivan 31

Sulln 07-21-23-31
Gale 08-28-49-64

Announcer’s Stats
Legge-2 pts., 2-2 FTs, 1 reb, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
McCarthy-8 pts., 2 3pt. FGs, 2-2 FTs, 3 reb, 1 assist, 1 steal
Sampson-12 pts., 4 3pt. FGs, 3 reb, 1 assist
Meinert-6 pts., 3 2pt. FGs, 2 reb, 1 assist, 3 steals, 1 block
Mixon-8 pts., 4 2pt. FGs, 0-1 FTs, 8 reb, 2 blocks
Range-2 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 3 reb
Lingafelter-9 pts., 3 3pt. FGs, 5 reb, 4 assists, 1 steal
Jenkins- 2 pts., 1 reb, 3 assists
Tucker-6 pts., 2 reb, 1 steal
Chockley-2 pts., 1 2pt. FG
Livingston-2 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 1 reb
Peck-5 pts., 2 2pt. FGs, 1-2 FTs,
25-51 2pt. FGs, 9-23 3pt. FGs, 5-9 FTs, Reb- Gales 35(12) Sull 24(8), TOs-Gales 13 Sull 20

-Some blistered butts ran onto the floor for warm-ups.
-Did some things well (shooting, rebounding, solid defense); I could be politically correct and say what a great job they did coming back from a terrible performance vs. Salem; They did play very well; You have to put that in context of how bad Sullivan is; This is what a good team should do vs. a team like that; To be brutally honest, this entire tournament field is made up of teams who are mediocre at best; losing to any of them doesn’t bode well considering the teams on the schedule for the remaining 14 games after the first of the year.

-Halftime- Meinert 6 pts., Mixon 10 pts., Sampson 9pts., Legge 10 assists.
-2nd half- Offense stagnant, no continuity- (1) denying Legge the ball all over the floor (2) Took away post entry.
-2nd Half- Meinert 4 pts. (1 3pter, 1FT), Mixon 2 pts., Legge 1 assist; 12-pt. 2nd half until Meinert’s banked-in 3pter at buzzer.

Massey Postgame-…”Our issues today were more basketball issues versus yesterday…more personality or psyche issues…want to eliminate repetitive errors…some of the kids are getting better that way, and some aren’t necessarily.”

These “personality or psyche issues” are bullsh#t. This isn’t group therapy. Just s#ck it up and do your job.

Galesburg 62 Olney 53

Olney 07-11-25-53
Gales 13-31-47-62

Announcer’s Stats
Legge-7pts., 1 2pt. FG, 5-10 FTs, 2 reb, 3 assists
McCarthy-8 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 1 3pt. FG, 3-5 FTs, 2 reb, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
Sampson-13 pts., 2 2pt. FGs, 2 3pt. FGs, 3-4 FTs, 4 reb, 1 assist, 1 steal
Meinert-20pts., 6 2pt. FGs, 8-8 FTs, 7 reb, 3 steals, 1 block
Mixon-10pts., 4 2pt. FGs, 2-6 FTs, 8 reb, 3 assists, 2 blocksRange- 2 reb
Lingafelter- 0-2 FTs
Jenkins-4 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 2-3 FTs, 2 reb, 3 assists
15-25 2pt. FGs, 3-16 3pt. FGs, 23-38 FTs, Reb- Gales 29(8) Olney 24(7), TOs- Gales 10 Olney 10

-Olney came out m-t-m. Galesburg immediately established Meinert and Mixon inside. Later went to 2-3 zone, but Gales got inside vs. that, too.
-Galesburg did a good job stifling Olney’s defense in 1st half-especially their leading scorer.
-Half- Meinert 11 pts., Sampson 7 pts., McCarthy 6 pts.,
-2nd Half-Olney’s offensive execution much better in all phases- outside shooting, dribble penetration.
-Two things made the 4th qtr. hard to watch: (1) Galesburg’s defense took a vacation (28pts.) (2) Olney took a foul 11 sec. into the qtr., and took fouls every 10-15 secs. the rest of the way-including with 0:12 down 9. Galesburg made enough FTs to keep Olney’s point differential at 2 to 1. This qtr. must have taken a half-hour- it seemed longer.

Mattoon (5-9) beat Altamont 50-33 to put them in the Championship game tonight vs. Galesburg. Playing Mattoon in their own tournament leads to some ridiculous situations. In general, every year the officiating is atrocious, but playing Mattoon takes it to another level. Some of the calls are so blatant, it’s astonishing.

Family and work commitments kept us at home last year, and this year as well. I do not miss the drive, or the officiating. Here's hoping for a successful outcome tonight.
Look back but don't stare.

Galesburg 42 Mattoon 29
http://www.galesburg.com/sports/2017123 ... toon-title

Matt 05-09-23-29
Gales13-20-29-42

Announcer’s Stats
Legge-7 pts., 7-9 FTs, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks
McCarthy-5 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 1 3pt., 5 reb
Sampson-12 pts., 2 2pt. FGs, 2 3pt. FGs, 2-2 FTs, 3 reb, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 blcok
Meinert-12 pts., 4 2pt. FGs, 2-4 FTs, 5 reb, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block
Mixon,- 4 pts., 2 2pt. FGs, 16 reb, 1 assist, 3 steals, 2 blocks
Range-2 pts., 1 2pt. FG, 4 reb, 1 steal
11-30 2pt. FGs, 3-12 3pt. FGs, 11-15 FTs, Reb- Gales 35(14) Mattoon 16(2), TOs- Gales 18 Mattoon 18

-Mattoon played 2-3 zone entire game, not very effective.
-Galesburg controlled 1st half, but the spectre of the Salem and Altamont games hovered. A shaky 3rd qtr.-poor shooting, TOs-engendered the thought, “Here we go again”. But they righted the ship.
-Galesburg dominated at both ends.
Defensively-Excellent job fronting Mattoon’s leading scorer, 5’10” F McDonald(19 ppg)-9 pts.. All three posts alternated, keeping a fresh player bumping, moving her off her spot. Mattoon had to force the ball to her, more often than not resulting in a short, low pass which was picked off, or an overthrow out of bounds.
Rebounding- Complete domination- +19, 14-2 off. ; Mixon’s 16 equaled Mattoon’s team total.
Offensively-Didn’t have a lot of trouble getting the ball down inside-post entry, high/low-; however, didn’t finish as many as they should have. Sampson continued her solid outside shooting.
-4th Qtr.-Opened up 29-23 3rd qtr. lead to 12 early 4th; Mattoon started taking fouls between 4-5 min. mark. Excellent FT shooting- Legge 5-7, Meinert 2-2, Sampson 2-2-closed out the game.
