IHSA multiplier and QWEST

Post by raeja » Mon Jun 27, 2016 10:37 pm

Very surprised to see QWEST is still 1A. I read the IHSA guidelines and it seems utterly ridiculous that they have to earn 4 points before multiplier takes place. Their enrollment without multiplier is 13 less than the 2A cutoff. When a school can draw from all of District 150 and is allowed to compete against small town schools it makes no sense. IMO, multiplier should be attached immediately. With QWEST I had no problem with no multiplier for the last several years because they had no Seniors but now..?

I did not realize that a multiplier did not take immediate effect.

In Indiana they use a success factor and moving teams to different classes. They use a two year total, if it is over a certain number, they are forced to move up. But, if after two years they don't have a success factor they are moved back down. You acquire points for how for your advance, sectional win, regional win, semi-state win, state win. Points increase for each level, I just do not remember how much they are. Kind of different, I just do not like that they can drop down so easily after being moved up. Example for us being one the smallest 3A schools we are paired with Bishop Chatard and Brebeuf Jesuit and hard to compete with them. We have the same problem with the private schools here as you do Illinois.

Sounds sort of like California. I saw that McFarland's cross country team ( relatively small school) has been moved all the way up to the largest class due to their success. Their movement has been incremental so it did not take place in one year. However, they are concerned they may not even make the state finals for the first time in 27 years or so. I do not agree with moving public schools up due to sucess--private schools are a different matter altogether. I do not believe a school like QWEST who is located in an urban area that is also a hotbed of basketball should be allowed to escape the multiplier until they obtain a certain number of points. They can ( and they do), recruit any student who falls in District 150. Other than money, I see no reason the IHSA has this policy.

At this point if the season, I am not sure if there are any area teams that would challenge then in a regional. A sectional would be more wide open.

Must have been some cold shooting for 3OT and 79 total points!

Qwest should be multiplied as well as all D-150 schools.
I'm no President Trump fan but thank you sir for your comments in regard to the NFL and those protesting our nations anthem. You were spot on!!!

Why 150?
This is imported Italian nylon and it's a special edition limited silk print and it was done by this really famous design artist.

Good win for Quest but after seeing East Moline at the Pekin Holiday Tournament, they are not a top ten 4A team.

Agreed except with 4 classes it's probably not too far off.

If I am not mistaken, Quest plays a little 1A team tonight. This probably won't look good in the end.

Yeah, I long for the two class days - heck I would be happy with three classes. Four classes just seems to diluted for my personal taste!
