Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament

Post by Vikingfan05 » Sat Dec 10, 2016 3:57 pm

I believe the seedings and pairings come out tomorrow evening for the tournament, always exciting to see who gets the top 4 seeds in the tournament. I believe there are about 7 or 8 teams with a legit shot at getting a top 4 seed and also making a deep run in the tournament. Anyone have any thoughts as to who may get the top 4 seeds?

I agree. More balenced field this yr. Rockridge, MonRose,IB all teams worthy of top seed.

My bold prediction on seeds was

1. Illini Bluffs
2. West Hancock
3. Pittsfield
4. Illini West

I will admit however I don't know a whole lot on what Rockridge has done this year and who they brought back besides Whiteman, so it's very possible they get a top 4 seed as well.

IB vs Farmington tonight in Farmington. Canton at 6-1 may be a sleeper.

Farmington was more aggressive and tougher in the fourth quarter and knocked off IB

Farmington played well as a team. The kept the ball moving and were patient on offense. The Higgs kid was very good, 30+ points.

I've seen Farmington twice and been impressed both times. They lit up BPC at BPC early in the year and Higgs scored probably around 25-30 in that game as well, saw them again against West Hancock in the championship game of the Spoon River Tip off Classic and they looked solid in that game as well, they will be a tough out in Macomb tourney as well as Bluffs. I think if top teams in the bracket hold up on day 1 out in Macomb you are going to see some excellent quarterfinal games. Macomb vs Farmington may be the best game of day 1.

Farmington spread offense will play well with a lead on the bigger court.

Yes Metamora is done out in Macomb, they lost back to back championship games against Rockridge (had both won fairly easily imo both years) and did not come back last year. They are playing in the big school bracket in Bloomington this year.

Another good tournament once again, congrats to Pittsfield on winning the championship over Canton in a close ball game, both teams played well all tournament long. Happy to see West Hancock bounce back and get another quality win against Farmington in the 3rd place game. Brunniga from Bluffs is an absolute stud and got completely robbed on tourney MVP considering he broke the scoring record for 4 games and shattered the free throws made and attempted in 4 games.

How is Taylor Bruninga not the MVP? Does anyone know how it was selected?

Good luck getting an explanation. I'm baffled. If he's not the MVP, then they might as well not even hand out the award.

There seriously had to be a conspiracy by whoever selected the award. Nothing else makes sense. I could possibly make a case for someone to win from the championship winning team, but the MVP was on the runner-up and had 6 points in the title game. Bruninga scored 134 points in the tourney and the MVP had 51.

Often ballots are due before title game and/or coaches turn them in when they depart tourney so lots of times it's based through semifinals. Also coaches voting usually only see their games and possible opponents games. Some coaches don't want to be bothered with this and don't do it or assign it to an assistant or even a manager.

I have no idea how this tourney decides MVP. I'm just offering some possible solutions.

Votes turned in early on the final day might explain the fact someone from runner-up won. This used to happen often at Pekin until the process was tweaked.

pittsfield teamwork and discipline took the tourney from more talented teams. Simply Pittsfield gets what a team sport is all about. Kudos and congrats!

And he broke several records....

Well with all the buzz. It still doesn't sound like Bruninga has a Division 1 offer. At least from his AAU coaches comments comparing him to Peters at Valpo and saying it was crazy he had no offers.
