Here are the 3A Sectional matchups around the state (some records may not be accurate as it's not easy finding some of the school's records):

Antioch Sectional
North Chicago (19-8) vs. Antioch (10-17)
Chicago Foreman (10-17) vs. Arlington Heights St. Viator (13-16)
North Chicago wins this one

Oak Park Fenwick Sectional
Oak Park Fenwick (26-4) vs. Chicago Westinghouse (12-14)
Chicago North Lawndale (22-7) vs. Chicago Farragut (14-9)
Fenwick should have made it last year, but was upset in the sectional. I they win this one.

Genoa-Kingston Sectional
Belvidere (17-13) vs. Sycamore (13-15)
Glen Ellyn Glenbard South (14-14) vs. Marengo (23-7)
Morengo wins this one handily.

Bradley University Sectional
Sterling (23-8) vs. Washington (23-6)
Bloomington (23-4) vs. Rock Falls (22-8)
Bloomington should win this one, but Rock Falls might give them trouble. Washington doesn't shoot the ball real well from the perimeter, and the big boy inside for Bloomington will block & alter shots in the paint all night. Bloomington is pretty versatile, and they run a pretty active zone that could really give Washington fits. Whitelow will have to do it all in this one for the Panthers to have a chance. I would like to say that the local team takes this one, but after watching Bloomington absolutely take Morton apart, I have to say that the Purple Raiders win this one.

Chicago St. Rita Sectional
Chicago Morgan Park (21-6) vs. Chicago Brooks (16-11)
Chicago Bogan (19-7) vs. Chicago St. Rita (18-10)
Look for Morgan Park to make it back to Carver Arena

Plano Sectional
Plano (23-6) vs. Olympia Fields Rich Central (11-17)
Country Club Hills Hillcrest (20-7) vs. Morris (13-16)
I'm taking Hill Crest in a mild upset in this one.

Benton Sectional
Benton (29-2) vs. Cahokia (20-10)
Breese Central (25-4) vs. Centralia (20-9)
I really like the Centralia coach. He is terrific, and I'm taking the Orphans of Centralia to make a return trip to Carver Arena.

Effingham Sectional
Springfield Lanphier (25-3) vs. Champaign Central (19-9)
Mt. Zion (21-9) vs. Decatur Eisenhower (23-7)
Lanphier should win this one, but they are not playing real well right now. I'm taking Champaign Central in this sectional.

Good luck to all the teams this upcoming week.

So predicting Bloomington over Washington has upset people to the point they take shots at norm?

Relax Pum it's all in fun. It's not his fault he chose the handle of an underdog but then picks South Bend over hickory every time. Hey sometimes it just doesn't work out... Lol

It appears we have some trolls in this thread, especially based on how often they've posted before today. Sure would be nice if they could keep the discussion on the topic and not take cheap shots at other posts. Lest the mods have to come in and clear things out.

Honestly, I don't see any reference to Bloomington Washington in the posts. He predicted all the sectional matchups. Having said that,, Bloomington should be favored to win the Peoria sectional. They've been solid all year

It's gonna be tough for Washington. I've been to several games where it is a challenge for them to score 40 points. I think they can beat Sterling and Bloomington if they can get someone besides Whitelow to score.

Bloomington wants to run and run. Panthers would need to stop them from scoring, because you can't win by trying to out score them. One thing I did notice is how lackadaisical Chris Payton is. He plays defense when he wants, and usually the last player up and down the court. He is not real physical, or at least doesn't want to be. A lot of talent and could be dominant if he chooses.

Washington has proven it’s among the elite wrestling teams in the state, having recently won its second consecutive Class 2A state title.

The Panthers can also hoop a little bit, and Sterling will find that out tonight when the squads meet in a Class 3A Peoria Sectional semifinal. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. in the Renaissance Coliseum on the campus of Bradley University.

The winner will take on either Rock Falls or Bloomington, who play on Wednesday, in the sectional title game on Friday.

Washington (23-6) is on a 17-game winning streak, with its last defeat coming on Dec. 28 against Pekin. The Panthers have since avenged that defeat with two wins against the Dragons, at home on Jan. 6 and at Pekin on Feb. 17.

“They’re a typical Washington team that’s built to win, and they’re going to give us fits,” Sterling coach Ryan Vasquez said. “Hopefully we can handle it.”

Leading the way for Washington is 5-foot-9 senior guard Devin Whitelow, who has already signed with Winona State, a Division II school in Minnesota. A 4-year starter, Whitelow averages 15.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game, and is the only senior in the Panthers’ starting lineup.

“He’s a really nice player,” Sterling’s Myles Williams said. “He’s fast. He can shoot the ball. He can pass the ball. He does whatever his team needs. Our game plan is to contain him, make sure he gives the ball to other players, and make them beat us.”

Job No. 1 for the Golden Warriors’ defense, according to Vasquez, will be to know what Whitelow is up to at all times.

“He’s a very special player, and we’re going to look to contain him,” Vasquez said. “We know we’re not going to be able to stop him, because he’s that good. We need to keep him in front of us, and we need to understand that there’s five guys guarding him, not one.”

Washington’s second option on offense is 5-10 junior guard Adrian Ware, who averages 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. The third guard in the lineup is Payton Havens, a 5-7 sophomore who averages 4 points and 2.3 assists a game.

Handling things up front are a pair of sophomores, 6-5 Collin Dietz (9 points, 6 rebounds, 1.1 assists per game) and 6-6 J.J. Guedet (4.2 points, 4.7 rebounds per game).

Sterling’s Williams is confident he and his teammates will be able to slow down the Washington attack.

“We feel like we wear teams down,” Williams said. “We’re going to play defense for 32 minutes and make teams earn every bucket. We don’t want to give up easy buckets, and we’ll stick to our game plan. We know what we want to do. Coming into the game, we know who we need to control and what they like to do. We just try to take teams out of their comfort zone.”

Offensively, Sterling will look to do what it does best – spread the ball around to a host of scoring options, and let its defense produce more points with steals and run-outs.

“As the season has gone along, we’ve definitely been playing better basketball, getting a lot more familiar with each other,” junior guard Sean Gingrich said. “That’s nice to see, especially getting into postseason play. We’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing – running the floor, sharing the ball and being unselfish.”

The Golden Warriors spent Monday afternoon practicing at Sauk Valley Community College, where the 94-foot college court, 10 feet longer than a standard high school court, will be the same length as the one at Renaissance Coliseum. They had 1 hour of court time, followed by some film study, and now it’s time to play.

“The kids are happy to be here, but they also understand the job’s not finished,” Vasquez said. “You can tell that they’re very excited.”

Whoever wrote that about the 17 game win streak for Washington must have missed the last game of the regular season.

I think Washington was 7-5 at one point so 16-1 in last 17 games is still pretty good
