Manual's Josh Ivory Beating Ref...

Post by CIS » Mon Jul 09, 2018 5:34 pm

I saw shocking video of an AAU player beating up a ref over the weekend - I was more SHOCKED to find out it was local player from Manual, junior Josh Ivory! I don't know of hardly any circumstances where a player should beat up a ref. If this is all true, he should be suspended for at least one year from the IHSA and all other basketball competition. This is getting out of hand and its NOT a race thing. I have been just as appalled at white peoples/players behavior towards officials. I have seen awful things at baseball, softball and other sports events. No matter what the color, this is going on across the board and it needs to stop! No wonder it's getter harder to find officials for events.....

Just for the record, AAU wants its good name cleared. This was not an AAU event.

Watching it just once it looks like at the beginning after a few blows there was a moment of calm the refs should have walked out of the situation and let tournament officials take over. Instead they stayed and escalated the situation. But to be clear I’m not faulting the refs, there is no way the players are faultless

Do we get in a grey area for discipline if it was not IHSA competition and was not representing the athlete's home school? If assault charges are filed, that kicks things up a few notches. Charges filed in Georgia can also be more expensive. Assault on a sports official in Illinois...up to one year prison, at least $1000 fine. Assault on a sports official in Georgia...up to 1 year in prison, up to $5000 fine, or both.

Video is pretty **** to say the least. No matter the cause, no one should tolerate the beating of an official.

If Willie Coleman lets him play at all this year, it would set a dangerous precedent for his time at Manual.

Make him sit a year. Let him practice. Let him sit on the bench at games. But no way does this guy play. From the comments in the pjstar article, it sounds like he has a pattern of problem behavior.

I agree, however if he is any good there will be another school ready to “recruit” him. And all will be good because it will make him a better person. And all will be forgotten. That seems the way it works with the McCluggage Bridge connection.

Metamora, Washington or Limestone could be potential destinations!

Any coach and AD that would allow him to play this season should be fired.

I can sure think of one. So can several other Metamora Boy's Basketball fans/players/coaches. Certain referee needs his cheatin' @$$ beat!!!!

I certainly don't condone his actions, but, I disagree O&B. This has absolutely nothing to do with "school". I'm tired of high schools thinking they "own" the kids 24-7-365. Punishment should come through the team he plays for, the league it was in & from his parents.

I know it would never happen but the coach would likely be setting himself up for some big problems. And lots AC violations have nothing to do directly with “school” . I would guess most violations aren’t directly related to school.

I doubt school coaches can do much without ending up in a lawsuit of some sort. (Especially, since as far as I know, no charges were filed in Georgia.) . From the summer coach's comments, he isn't going to do anything. This wasn't an AAU event, so does this team even have a league? About all the school can do is put the hammer down if something like this happens during a school game (in which case the IHSA would be quickly involved).

If someone gets beat for when they mess up at their job/life, then we all would sooner or later. I only know of one person that walked on water and he was even nailed to a cross.
I sure hope your comment was a bad attempt at comedy as nobody should call for this.

If you think that Supersectional "mess up" was a simple case of his being human, you are sooooooo freakin' naive.
