Where on the IHSA website are you seeing this?
Re: IHSA Mask Policy
It’s the first paragraph of a communication sent to officials.
IOW it’s not the officials job to try to enforce. It’s up to the schools.

Bluejay, you may disagree with a majority of my posts but if you personally knew me you’d see that I’m a personable, reasonable person. This forum is nothing more than fun.
I’ve been blessed in life to have known and be friends with a lot of people. My friendships have allowed me to do a lot of great things. One of my all time favorites is play ball at Rucker Park. If you think I’m making stuff up, god bless you.

Re: IHSA Mask Policy
Going by what I've seen in the six games so far (boys and girls), only a few players are wearing masks properly, most have them down around their chin or around their necks. Coaches and officials wear their masks (though I've seen a couple officials drop theirs down in the second half in a hot gym.) (Giving the extra mask timeout in the middle of the quarter is hit-or-miss, depending on the officiating crew.)
As far as spectators, probably 75-90 percent don't wear masks (or wear them to get in the gym, then take them off when they get to the bleachers.)
Re: IHSA Mask Policy
Officials I have spoken with tell me the “mask timeout” is up to the coaches to ask for it as they aren’t going to stop the game unless one coach asks. I can see a coach using it as a free timeout to stop a run or get their team a breather.MidstateFan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 10:30 pmGoing by what I've seen in the six games so far (boys and girls), only a few players are wearing masks properly, most have them down around their chin or around their necks. Re: IHSA Mask Policy
I’ve been to 13 games so far. I’ve seen one player with a mask, a couple of coaches, a couple officials and a very very small amount of fans by the hundreds. By day 2 you were lucky if you saw anyone wearing a mask. Today no one was wearing one and no mask timeout.
Sooooooo close to our only perfect week with perfect dual tie-breaker point totals of all time. U sir are a freakin' genius!!!

Re: IHSA Mask Policy
As Mike Radigan noted, the South Africa variant is on the way. Lets hope it doesn't mess up this season.Cristobal wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 10:58 pm I’ve been to 13 games so far. Per IHSA, responsibility for enforcing mask mandate falls on the school.
"The IHSA does not expect officials to enforce the mask mandate."
"If masks are not worn properly, it is up to school administrators and coaches to enforce this mandate for their team."
There is no way a school is going to attempt to enforce a mask mandate for spectators. I can envision a scenario where we have to go back to no spectators.

Re: IHSA Mask Policy
From what I read, there is only about 100 people know to have been tested for this new variant, so it’s a pretty small sample. OK to be cautious, but not go crazy. I did note one official this weekend with a built in whistle in the mask. I’m not sure players wearing masks is effective at all. Shots yes, masks no.
go cubs go!
Re: IHSA Mask Policy
i saw 12 games over the weekend in sycamore. every player, coach and official wore a mask (most players did not wear them "properly"). the vast majority of fans had masks on. i would estimate 85%.Cristobal wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 10:58 pm I’ve been to 13 games so far.
