I wonder how much of the Metamora fanbase will make the trip up to Joliet on Friday. Especially with this being the school's first ever trip to state in baseball.

Wouldn't it be hilarious to see Metamora/SHG on the diamond for the title?

Probably not many more than the usual. Majority have to work. Now, if the Birds make the Championship, I would expect a good crowd on Saturday.

I got this from Lemont's website:
Lemont will enter the state finals with a 33-5 record, having already established a school single-season record for wins. Winners of five straight games, the Indians have outscored their opponents by a 35-4 margin in the IHSA Playoffs. Lemont captured its sixth straight South Suburban College-Blue Division title in 2014, and also has earned the program’s first-ever IHSA Sectional and IHSA Super-Sectional crowns. When Jake Latz (11th round) and Mike Papierski (16th round) were drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, they became the first Lemont baseball players to be drafted out of high school.
The Latz kid is 9-0 with a 0.25 ERA on the season.

Wow, sounds like a pretty darn good team. But when it comes to state tournament - all you need is to win one game to advance. One hot pitcher or a few errors ...

Here's who Lemont HS's 5 losses were to this season (and how those teams did in the state tournament):

-Frankfort (Lincoln-Way North): Lost in 4A sectional finals to New Lenox Providence Catholic
-Oak Forest: Lost in 3A regional semifinals to Lemont (Oak Forest defeated Lemont HS twice in the regular season)
-Burbank St. Laurence: Lost in 4A sectional semifinals to Chicago Mt. Carmel
-Andrean, IN: Defeated Lemont HS in a late season tournament

.At the moment for those that really follow high school baseball (not me) both the Redbirds and Cyclones are being looked at as underdogs in this next game. By the experts whoever they are..... We will see.

Not sure who those experts are, but according to this the favorites seems to be Lemont and SHG:

Lemont and Sacred Heart-Griffin, the two clear favorites to win the Class 3A championship, move up a few spots up to No. 2 and 3.

I'm not sure where Truth Be Told is getting his info from. When two teams in final four have double digit losses each and the other two have a combined 8 losses, I'm guessing the teams with fewer losses are likely the favorites.

Speaking of which, here are who SHG's 3 losses were to (and how those teams from Illinois fared in the IHSA postseason):
-Peoria Notre Dame: Lost in the sectional final to Metamora
-St. Louis Christian Brothers, MO
-O'Fallon: Upset by Belleville West in regional semifinals

.Hahhaa. An unhappy Redbird football fan? And their numbers and what changes they want are increasing. Of course....

Anyway. Lemont I'm told has a stud lefty pitcher who is going to LSU (but maybe will forgo that) and a catcher that is as good as Mitch Trees from SHG who was drafted in the 11th round by the Cincinnati Reds. Now Central is a bit of a mystery team regardless of their stats. A we refuse to lose blue collar mindset which has worked in the post-season making them very dangerous. Wins and losses in the regular season is no longer relevant when it comes to you lose your out. We will see, a non northern flavored final would be fun.

Yes, Lemont had left-handed pitcher Jake Latz (11th round, Toronto) and catcher Mike Papierski (16th round, Toronto) both taken in the draft

BOTH LSU commits.

Latz- The 6-2 southpaw has compiled a 4-0 record while not allowing an earned run in those starts. Just as impressive, he has allowed only four walks in 24 innings of work with 45 strikeouts. He throws a fastball that approaches 90 mph and has a curve and changeup to complement it.

Papierski- Lemont jumped out to a 21-1 record and Papierski’s hitting has been a big component of that success. He carries a .344 average along with four home runs, 16 RBI and 13 walks. His approach at the plate is appreciated by his teammates and coaches. “He has a great knowledge of the hitting zone. He works counts and he is a very good two strike hitter. He is very disciplined at the plate and he draws walks because of that.’’ according to his coach.

.Game 2
SHG led 2-1 needing one more out to advance. The Rams tie it sending it into extra innings. Bottom of the tenth with the bases loaded, the Rams #1 pitcher hits the Cyclone batter and SHG wins 3-2. Latz for Lemont will pitch in the championship game tomorrow at 11:30.

Noticed that the scores from Friday are still not on the IHSA site..............What a joke. Maybe they need more funds to employ someone to post timely scores.
