Lady Raiders will take on Rochester on Friday. Lady Rockets defeated Herrin 10-4 in 8 innings today at Mattoon. This is the furthest that Rochester's softball team has ever made it in the tournament.

Other state semifinal matchup on Friday is Marengo vs. LaGrange Park Nazareth.

Has East Peoria softball ever gone to state? Congrats to the Lady Raiders who have a chance to bring home the first state title to East Peoria I believe (Correct me if I am wrong)

Per the records on ihsa.org, yes. The furthest they got previously was the supersectional back in 2014 when they lost to Manteno at ISU. That Manteno team went on to finish runner up for the state title to Chatham Glenwood.

Going to guess EP wins tomorrow and the MI ends up with two champions and a runner up in softball the last 3 years. Pretty amazing out of a little suburban conference. Lots of state championship runs out of the MI the last few years.

This would be East Peoria's first title in any sport! Wow, wouldn't that be something....

Actually per the IHSA website, in current sports, that would be correct. The school did win a state title in Debate in 1964 though I assume most people on here wouldn't consider that a sport and it falls under activities on the IHSA website anyway.

The school's best previous finish in any sport was the baseball team finishing 2nd in 1974 when they lost to Glenbrook North 4-3 in 8 innings. That East Peoria team had a pitcher and future Bradley basketball player named Roger Phegley. The Glenbrook North team had future MLB pitcher Scott Sanderson who pitched for the Cubs for six seasons during the 1980s.

Does anyone know how the attendance was yesterday and today? I would think that with this being a home game for East Peoria and a chance for the school to win their first states sports championship that there would be a ton of local interest and that attendance would be way up from previous years....

Per boxscore on IHSA website, attendance was 550 for the Rochester-East Peoria game yesterday. 175 for the Nazareth Academy-Marengo game that was played after it.

East Peoria had a great run but came up a little short. Had a few chances to score including runners on second & third in the bottom of the 7th. Provided a lot of great memories.

Gosh, those numbers seem kind of low for a state championship series, are the softball finals usually that low? I guess softball doesn't draw that well. Anyway congrats to Marengo for their title and to the Lady Raiders for their second place! It was quite a post season run for East Peoria

I'd be highly surprised by a crowd that large. Even with a local team in it.

Get serious. I watched online and it looked like there were at least 30,000. :td
I favor capital punishment. But there are alot of cases where I don't think capital punishment applies (parking violations) and cases where it should be applied (murder, child molestation, illegal HS football recruiting).- BirdWatcher

Since class expansion 10 seasons ago, the Mid-Illini has had five teams play for a State title.
2008 - Limestone (32-8) State Champions
2010 - Metamora (39-1) State Champions
2015 - Washington (29-10) State Champions
2016 - Washington (37-2) Runner-up
2017 - East Peoria (31-5) Runner-up

Of the three Champs, only the 2010 Metamora team was Mid-Illini Champ in the same season.
