For the civil discussion of high school softball

After 25 years, the Morton Park District Board finally lifted the residency requirements for playing travel softball . The MYSA has asked on other occasions to lift this restriction, but to no avail. Too little too late. This has been an issue, since Morton teams have not been competitive, since 75% of Morton players must live in the district. Many of these girls previously played recreational ball and were not ready to play the competition of travel leagues. No other travel league team in the area has these requirements. Example, one of the two MYSA teams went 2-49 this summer. However, the ruling came down today, after most of the other girls had tryouts and committed to other teams in the area more than 2 weeks ago. Not sure if there are enough players left to form a competitive 14U team next year. Meanwhile Morton girls are now committed to play for teams from East Peoria, Peoria, Washington and Pekin.
