I & M Canal Trail

Post by TheRoller » Tue Mar 15, 2016 1:17 pm

Anyone have any experience on this trail? I am told there are two areas that are washed out at the time. The one in Morris apparently has a detour but the one closer to LaSalle I'm not so sure of.

Not that anyone appears to be reading this category but; the washout in Morris is pretty substantial and requires a detour of several city blocks to go around. Coming from the east you pick the trail back up at Gebhard Woods State Park. The washout on the west end is near Utica and is no problem. There is a detour around it with a wooden railing. Overall a well maintained trail that is great for biking or hiking. Camp sites near Buffalo Rock are all open and appear to be maintained. There are no services (water or bathrooms) so be prepared if planning to use them.
