Donte to Donar

Post by squirrel »

Donte Thomas has signed with incoming frosh Rienk Mast's club Donar:

It will be interesting to see if Luuk ends up playing in the Dutch league as well. . .some speculation he could sign with league titlists Zwolle.

Luuk has reported that he is recovering after surgery for a ruptured Achilles he suffered three weeks ago. He just got out of a cast and has started rehab and hopes to come back stronger than ever.

The plus side is he was never an athletic guy so it will not affect his game as much.

Donte was the leading scorer (16) and rebounder (7), and co-leader for assists (5) vs. Benfica (Portugal) in their Champions League qualifying game Tuesday, a 95-65 loss. They have another game against Benfica, but look like they'll transfer to the FIBA Europe Cup after being eliminated from the Champions League prelims.

He also was the leading rebounder in an pre-season game vs. Oostende, the Belgian team that eliminated Donar from the Europe Cup knockout round last year.

Donte had 6 points and 6 rebounds as Donar defeated Benfica by 10 in the second meeting, but they still are eliminated from the Champions League, with a -20 aggregate score. Former SHOX plays for Benfica.

Donar will be in the FIBA Europe Cup after being bounced from the CL.

Would Benfica teammates Eric Coleman and Toure Murrey ever played against each other in the Valley? It seems like they were too far apart, but my mind is foggy sometimes.

Missed by one year. Coleman finished at UNI in 2008, and Murry started at Wichita the following Fall.

Donte had 20 points and 5 assists in Donar's season-opener, and added 13 points and 5 rebounds and 2 steals in Donar's second game vs. Den Bosch. Teammate Matt Williams (former UCF player, as well as teammate with KTP Basket in Finland) went off for 35 points (8-14 from 3, and 7-7 from FT) and added 5 boards, 2 assists and a steal as Donar won 91-75.

As best I can tell, Luuk has not signed with a team as of yet.

Squirrel - Luuk ruptured his achilles tendon in late June while working out. He probably won't be playing this year.

Aware of that, but he still had hopes of signing on with a team.

Great to see two BU players together overseas. Those two represented BU first class , they are exactly what you want out of your student athletes.

Donte led the team and had 20 points (8-9 on 2pt FG), 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks, but Donar lost to last year's champions Zwolle, 77-70. They are currently 5th at 2-2.

Donar has one more league game before beginning play in the FIBA Europe Cup, where they share their group with 2 Belgian clubs and a Turkish club.

Donte is averaging 20.33 points, 5.83 rebounds, 2.17 assists, 1.33 blocks and 1 steal per game in league, and shooting 75% from 2, 50% from 3, and nearly 80% from the FT line.

In their 2 FIBA Europe Cup games, he is averaging 14.5 points and 6 rebounds, and not shooting nearly as well.

Donte has had a minor injury-not sure what, and hasn't played with Donar since the team's November 30 FIBA Europe Cup game, which it lost and subsequently eliminated Donar from European competition.

It looks like he was available but DNP for their last league game, an 88-70 win over Den Helder Suns, and was held out last night for the domestic cup game, a 103-27 route over a semi-pro team. Donar advanced to the quarterfinals of that competition, and sit third in the Dutch League.
