Since 1988, I think Bradley basketball has largely underachieved given its resources and support. With the hires of Ford and McCarty, and I cannot think of another time over the last 30 years where there's been a better opportunity to become a juggernaut in this league. No Tulsa, no Creighton, no Wichita. Yes, ISU and now Loyola look to be able to be annual contenders as well. But we have a larger basketball budget than both (although that may change at Loyola after this year). I know this has been said before, but there's no reason why we can't finally return to being the program we once were. It's time.
Some could say that Wardle is the best floor coach out of the bunch...

Where we need to get better is in matching Moser and Muller in terms of recruiting.

Bradley has the ability to be the class of the league.

We shall see how it all shakes out going forward.

There had been rumors of this move going back to January when Eustachy was bombing out. Niko must have a connection there or something. Talk about moving up quickly.

So 1/3 of the league is starting from scratch next year. That's got to be 6-0 against those teams. Can we find 8 more wins among the other 6 teams in the league?

For a place that has had trouble winning consistently on the road, I'm not sure I would go that far...but you're right, we need to take most of those games.

Niko was an assistant there for 7 years before he took the Furman job

Never trust a Soviet. Medved leaves Drake starring at the Thursday night abyss for the next several years again. I hope he had a big buyout in his contract.

I think both MSU and Evansville did as well as could be expected in their coaching searches. Both solid gets.
I was just looking at some of this JQH stuff. Sounds like Missouri State is getting left with a big pile of magic beans instead of a lot of money they were promised.

"Several university facilities bear the Hammons name, such as Juanita K. Hammons Center for the Performing Arts, named for the late hotelier's wife, and Hammons Student Center. Hammons also promised MSU more than $30 million to help build JQH Arena, the News-Leader previously reported. The $67 million project was built as a new home for the university's basketball teams. Hammons' trust was set to pay $1.8 million a year, with the last payment scheduled for April 2032."

What happened to the last Drake coach who bolted after a good season?

They should hire him tbh. Look how much they improved after his recruits became sophomores.

Good point. Those millions in the bank guarantee a good life racking up CIT appearances in Central Michigan.

Thanks for the memory, Niko

Certainly interesting, but as someone pointed out he has a history there. And the parallels to Keno are bizarre as is the weirdness of their names.

It will be interesting to see if they can lure someone that is easily duped a la Mark Phelps, or if they'll struggle to find strong candidates.

They could do a good job and just stay in house with Thorson and Ali as associate head coach. My guess is Ali is probably a big part of their recruiting success as is Thorson. But I can also see Niko taking him with.

Ali deserves so much better than the Knapp Center. Most Division I players do.

The race between to the bottom between Drake and Evansville is off to quite a start. After the Aces hire today and Niko bolting, I'd say Drake has a substantial lead!

Niko also had 4 years of DI head coach experience before the Drake job, and had worked for an impressive list of coaches, including Tim Miles, Dan Monson, Jim Molinari, and current Cinci associate head coach Larry Davis.

This is true. But to be fair, many thought Niko was a meh hire last year.

Drake should have done a better job of protecting them self in this contract, having to hire a new coach after only 1 year is just bad.I can definitely see why Niko would bolt for a better place since he lost most of his team which in general was actually recruited by the previous coach.

Keno is doing a very good job at Central Michigan.

Also, Keno had the table set nicely for him by his father, who had built the program for 5 years with Keno involved every step of the way.

Niko came in after Giacoletti quit mid-season in the midst of running the program into the ground.
