2017 Bears Draft....
Who would you like to see the Bears draft in the first round this year? Probably one of the more important pick with it being so high....

Best available player regardless of position. Ideally, that player is an offensive tackle or safety / DB.CIS wrote:Who would you like to see the Bears draft in the first round this year? Probably one of the more important pick with it being so high....

I concur that I want the best available player. Ideally that would be Myles Garrett or Jonathan Allen but I suspect they will go 1-2. The only thing that gives me hope is that Cleveland is one of those teams.

I favor capital punishment. But there are alot of cases where I don't think capital punishment applies (parking violations) and cases where it should be applied (murder, child molestation, illegal HS football recruiting).- BirdWatcher

Could Cleveland go for another QB??Reggie wrote:I concur that I want the best available player. Ideally that would be Myles Garrett or Jonathan Allen but I suspect they will go 1-2. The only thing that gives me hope is that Cleveland is one of those teams.
Re: 2017 Bears Draft....
I would be okay with that. Having some friends who are Browns fans I sure hope they learned their lesson from drafting Johnny Manziel but since this is the Browns we are talking about...CIS wrote:Could Cleveland go for another QB??Reggie wrote:I concur that I want the best available player. Re: 2017 Bears Draft....
Bears could cut or trade Cutler, sign McNown (spelling intentional) and draft a developmental QB in the middle rounds of the draft.

Get it right. It's spelled McGowan.

What does everyone think of the QB logic expressed in the article?
Re: 2017 Bears Draft....
IMO Garappolo would command too much to acquire in a trade. No reason to repeat the Rick Mirer experience. Glennon is bad and Taylor does not do much for me.SS01 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2017 5:52 pmKiper-Bears should take Jonathan Allen DL Alabama

If the money is right I would have no problem with Tony Romo. It would give the Bears at least a chance to be competitive.
I am of the school that the best way to get better quick is to build up the defense. History has shown that competent QB play alongside is all that is necessary if the defense is good enough (see: Trent Dilfer and 2015 Peyton Manning). The last time the Bears made the Super Bowl they had an outstanding defense (albeit down two stars by the time the game rolled around) and a QB who on average was okay but nothing special. If the defense could add Allen AND avoid the injuries from last season (no guarantee obviously) I see no reason why they cannot be immensely improved. That along with a running game that looks very solid and the Bears could get a lot better sooner than we think.

You had me until Tony.... i'm afraid the body is just beyond repair.... he reminds me of Tiger...he's just to beat up. Now take him away from a good Dallas O line and put him behind a not so good Bears line and down he goes...Reggie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2017 6:05 pmIMO Garappolo would command too much to acquire in a trade. I agree Garapolos price tag will be too high unless the Bears trade down and acquire multiple picks...perhaps they get a top 10 pick and another first rounder or a high 2nd rounder and can trade that...
So I was in the airport the other day and I saw AL B., PM me if you want more details.
Re: 2017 Bears Draft....
I am hoping there is a QB worth taking about round three. As much as some Bears fans do not want to hear it keeping Jay Cutler may be the most feasible option. The problem I see is that if they keep him AND draft a QB that it will be Denver all over again where his feelings are hurt and he throws a tantrum.

Isn't it possible to trade for him to save money over free agency? His cap hit the next 2 seasons is acceptable for an average starting QB. Obviously you don't give up much, but I could make a case for it.

I just don't understand who would give up something for Jay Cutler. I guess there is a *** somewhere.... but after what I've seen, I wouldn't.

Re: 2017 Bears Draft....
$16 mil is 22nd or so for NFL QB's. If you trade a lower round pick for him you get him for market value without any future cap consideration as all the guaranteed money is paid out already. Not saying anyone will trade for him, but the contract actually makes it a possibility.

Heard an interesting idea to sign Glennon as a serviceable bridge and drafting a QB. Mahomes had a good combine so I'm not sure he would be available in the second round.

Re: 2017 Bears Draft....
Interesting they are reported to pay a minimum of $14.5 million per year for the 3 years. I agree is good to go a little younger, but it isn't much different than the Cutler money for those indicating he was overpaid.Mike Radigan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2017 9:48 amBears agree to three-year deal with quarterback Mike Glennon.

The ones saying Cutler was overpaid either didn't understand the way his contract was structured or the current market of NFL QB salaries or both.
