Ian Happ needs to be benched until he finds the strike zone. He is guessing at pitches. When he was brought up he was quoted as being another Ben Zobrist, very disciplined at the plate. Instead he has become another Starlin Castro, back in the day. When he discovered he could hit home runs, he now thinks every swing has to be a home run. It has become an embarrassment every time he is at the plate.

Zobrist didn't start hitting until he was 28. Happ is 22.

If you expect Ben Zobrist, then don't complain until they're 28 and still unable to hit.

Which is it?

I guess I expect more from this team, especially at home. Simply no discipline at the plate. Kyle and Baez gets 3 pitches that are head high. They know that they will get these pitches, yet they swing at every one of them straight out of the chute. Frustrating as heck. Last I heard, baseball was a team game. Looking at this team to the Series champion, there is no comparison. Joe might say that he is having fun, but his body language tells me different.

Ian Happ said he was another Ben Zobrist when he was brought up? Where did you read that quote that he said that about himself?

And are you actually personally embarrassed every time he comes to the plate? Are you embarrassed for him? For the team? Just who exactly is he embarrassing?
Thanks J.J. for what I consider sound advice!

The pitching which had been so good since the break has failed miserably. We're back to square one. I have zero confidence in this team right now. This is not your 2016 Cubs.

To be fair, I think we figured that out back in April or May...

Cubs will still win the division. But not the same team as the last two seasons that's for sure.

I agree with Kasper that Happ has hit a wall. Hitting .190 and striking out at a .500 clip won't keep you in the lineup, or majors very long. Pitchers have figured him out, now he has to figure out the pitchers.

Just want to reiterate, AGAIN, that he is 22 years old and barely has 238 ABs, has an .806 OPS which is good enough for 35th in all of the NL if he had the ABs to qualify. He has an OPS+ of 106, which is 6 points above league average, AS A 22 YEAR OLD! Of course there is a learning curve in both directions, but for how awful you make him out to be his numbers are actually pretty decent.

His 162 game projections are: 28 2bs, 5 3Bs, 33 HR, 82 RBI. Would you not take that over a 162 game season?

Almora, Schwarber, Happ, La Stella and Contreras have all yet to spend an entire season at the MLB level.

Why doesn't Maddon make Happ wear a funny hat on a roadtrip, then all will be fixed and he will start hitting again

Cubs lose again as Willson Contreras pulls a hammy and will undergo an MRI today.

And oh yeah, here comes the Cards as they leapfrog over the Brewers into second by 0.00015 percentage points.

The Brewers fall 3 back into a tie with the Pie Rats. The division is there for the taking.

10 of the Cubs' remaining 48 games are with the Reds. They must take advantage of this part of their schedule.

Schwarber is plain overmatched against Corbin. He is swinging at pitches in front of the plate. Jay has to be a better answer than Kyle. This team is completely lost without our starting catcher. Looks like we will waste a good outing by Lester.

Nats' season potentially saved as Harper's MRI shows only a bone bruise.

In Cubs loss last night, did anyone see the ridiculous called 3rd strike on Zobrist to end the game. The ball nearly bounced off the plate. Whether it would have made a difference or not no one knows, but if he gets on the tieing run is at the plate. A veteran ump to boot.
