Early estimate on Strop injury is 2 weeks.

Do they turn to Justin Wilson or can they get a closer with a trade? I don’t see Strop coming back with a hamstring injury? I must admit Strop has filled the role with Morrow out. Any indication on him?

They've been saying next week is a possibility for Morrow. He threw a 35-pitch bullpen session this week. But even Morrow himself admits he probably won't be able to throw 100%.

I'd be interested in seeing what the Cubs record would improve to, if they had someone else managing them this year.

Cub fans confuse me. Best 4 year stretch in over 100 years. Best record in the national league in a year they have dealt with a lot of injuries, yet many Cub fans seemingly want Maddon fired.

Right. Another manager could have had this team sitting at 70 wins, too. It could go either way. If the Cubs hold on to win the division, in 13 seasons as a MLB manager he will have 8 playoff seasons. He has a 5 division titles. He is currently sitting on 6 Leauge Championship Series, with 2 WS appearances and 1 WS title.

That said, this has been a bad season by Maddon overall. But injuries and poor performance has played a significant role in factoring in to a bunch of his questionable moves.

This shouldn't be confusing. Your above sentiment is "We accept the terrible managerial decisions that accompany this person because they have put our team/organization in a position we haven't been in for a long time.".

There is PLENTY of room for improvement still - and expecting that should NOT be confusing for someone to understand.

So is your assertion that all of the success of the Cubs and Rays before them has come in spite of Maddon? Everyone indicated the Cubs won earlier than expected, was that in spite of Maddon as well? If he is so bad, who would you rather have?

The only anxiety I have at this point as a Cubs fan is the Brewers pitching staff, and the fact that to date, the Cubs have not been consistent enough offensively, with multiple players hitting the ball at the same time at any point this season. I still have confidence that is bound to happen at a certain point.

In spite of Maddon's questionable management this season and maybe some lack of addressing certain team needs by the front office, this is still a very good team that should be contending for the NL pennant over the next month.

I get the angst, but when you put this team's disappointments in context, the record still is impressive, maybe moreso. But when you have high expectations and the team does appear to not perform well, the finger always points somewhere.

I am not saying Maddon has been perfect or every decision in hindsight was correct, and criticism is reasonable and part of the manager gig anyway. As someone on WSCR said today, no one calls sports radio to compliment a manager's decisions. However, talk of firing a manager who won a World Series in 2016 and who has the best record in the NL is not only premature but lunacy. There have been injuries to key offensive players, and their starters underperformed most of the year which has worn down the bullpen.

I didn't watch game, so I don't know all the details but what I know is this, 10th inning, bases loaded and one out, Madden has Strop hit instead of pinch hitter. Strop hits in double play and gets injured. So why didn't Madden pinch hit? Was there a reason? On the surface, I am thinking get a pinch hitter and at least get a sac fly. Were the Cubs out of relief pitchers at the time (besides late season call ups)? Is that why they had to have Strop bat?

Don't put me in that group. I am very happy Joe is the manager and I believe this year has been the best job he has done since becoming the manager. The 2 big free agent pitchers bust, Bryant spends half the season on the DL, Rizzo hurt, Russell hurt, Almora and Contreras has stopped hitting, lose your free agent closer, and the list goes on. I have heard Cubs fans can't handle the team finally winning and competing and I'm starting to believe it. Did he make a mistake last night, probably so but I didn't know there were perfect managers in the big leagues. Maybe Cubs fans would be happy if they fired Joe and hired Matheny.

Magic number is now a Lucky 13 for the Cubs, with the Brewers yet to play tonight.

Cards have now lost 4 straight after today's game with the Dodgers and now are 6.5 out in the division and 1 full game behind the Dodgers for the second Wild Card spot.

Talking about Contreras’ double that he thought was a HR and almost got thrown out at second.
