Fire still has a match in hand tomorrow morning though. What would be the preferred result for the Fire against Vancouver be to go through?
I would think they'd want a win which gives them an extra day of rest before their knockout round match. If they advance as a third-place team, even though there are two possible bracket placements, both of them would be on July 26 vs. July 27.

Fire let up 2 second half goals after a lightning delay and are eliminated on goal differential.

Minnesota stuns San Jose, who had emerged as the most impressive team in the tournament, 4:1. The Loons scored 2 goals in the opening minutes. While San Jose got one back, and a really good crack to equalize, United had a fairly quick response and pushed the lead back to 2 goals by making in 3:1, before netting their 4th in the closing minutes.

It's a mostly surprise semifinals, and NYCFC just got a PK to go up 1:0 at 26' in the last quarterfinal match against Portland.

The winner of NYCFC-Portland will face Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, while Orlando City and Minnesota will contest the other semifinal on Thursday.

And outside of the two teams that dropped out early, it is looking like the event will be completed with minimal COVID incident.
