I cant believe this team is only 3.5 out. First time to 500 since June 2nd.

Cardinals have the worst record against other Central teams of any team in the Central by far at 20-28. Even the Reds are 22-20 against the Central. The remaining schedule will be curious as the Cards have done well against the East, but have played mostly bottom dwellers there.

I think it is time to make sure the team secures the futures of the front office and Mike Matheny. You don't want to risk these rising young stars of baseball leaving for greener pastures. Would a lifetime contract for all be appropriate?

Only if the Cubs do the same for Lackey and Zobrist. Lock them up for five more seasons!!

Central is weak. While the Cubs should still be the favorite, I think if the Cards get hot, all bets are off. Their pitching is good enough to keep them near the top.

And Schwarber. I remember a conversation earlier this season where a Cub poster was lamenting the fact that Maddon chose to use John Jay to pinch hit when Schwarber was available. John Jay is the only Cub with a 3 in front of his average while the best pure hitter in the game has a big fat 1 in front of his average and K's

Come on Beamer - the big difference is like Squirrel competently posted in another thread. Schwarber is 24 and hasn't even spent a full season in the Majors yet.

exactly my point in my competant response to a fan lamenting not using Shwarber in a key PH role vs John Jay

Apparently when the offense scores runs, its easier to win baseball games. Nice stretch of offense

Winning streak is at 8 and it's a tie at the top of the division. The offense has been on fire since Fowler came back

Mathematical tie, sure, but the Cubs have 2 extra games to play.

Well done, by the Cards, considering how terrible they were the first couple weeks of the season, too.

They were terrible way more than just the first couple of weeks of the season. I might even say they have been terrible a good majority of the season. The only difference during this run has been the offense is producing runs. Most of the season, they were struggling to score. The starting pitching has been good most of the season. But the bullpen (particularly Cecil) has been bad, the defense has been suspect, and then the offense has struggled. In fact its taken 6-8 runs to win most of these games. Its been fun and I'll take it but I cannot get too excited about this team because of who they have been.

Oh I still don't think they will make the playoffs but it's a fun stretch right now. Side note, does any team whine more than the Cubs? They lose 6-2 and blame it on one bad strike 3 call to end it? They always have an excuse.

To that point Buckeyes, I think it was more the sum of a bunch of questionable calls/rulings the entire game and maybe a combination of frustration. But, yes, I don't like the amount of it that the Cubs do either.

Umpire Wegner had a bad night last night. It happens, and for a team like the Cubs, they should be good enough to put runs on the board in spite of this.

The Sun Times writer had a tweet today about the running list of things the 2017 Cubs have whined about. It's a long list. They really need to get over themselves.

I'm sure the exact same list could be generated for any team.

Nope... these things are exclusive to the Cubs and their fans because they/we are not humans. If your associated with the Cubs in anyway your from another planet. Most people bleed red... we bleed yellow. Most people put their pants on one leg at a time.. we struggle to even find our pant. Others say potatoe... we say we don't like carbs.

We are the ONLY fans that complain about calls... there isn't another team that would have complained about that 3rd strike that was 6 inches below the knees... in fact Matheny would have come out and shook the Umps hand .... wiped his brow...brought him some iced tea while thanking him for a job well done.

Don't even get me started about that dancing bullpen and crazy team shirt day.......
So I was in the airport the other day and I saw AL B., PM me if you want more details.

I don't know anything about any of that. I don't follow twitter, and I don't watch or read much about pre game post game narratives. I just watch the games. I do occasionally read StL beat writers to see if they are thinking the kind of things I think about about to learn about personnel issues. But I don't care what Cub fans do and say nor Cardinal fans. For me it its just about the baseball game at hand.

I have said this before, because I hear some Cardinal fans (for years btw) rip on Cub fans and vice versa. Honestly, I know very few fans of either team that are of this ilk and Most of the baseball people I know are in fact fans of one team or the other, but I never get into these kind of discussions with either, it just doesn't happen.
