Atlanta will play their first game in the new Mercedez-Benz Stadium with an anticipated sell-out crowd of 71,000, which would also set a new MLS record, surpassing a game between the Galaxy and MetroStars (69,225) in the league's inaugural season, and a 2013 contest between Portland and Seattle exceeding 67K.

This whiparound thing is a HUGE win for MLS. They've managed to make even playoff positioning interesting alongside an MLS record barrage of goals. :td

3 crowds over 40K, 1 of which exceeded 71K. Atlanta posted 2 new MLS single-game records with crowds in excess of 70K, and set the new single-season mark averaging 48,200 and becoming the first MLS club to surpass 800K on the season. The previous marks were held by Seattle who drew 44,247/752K in 2015.

For the league, they hit 8M for the first time. However, it is worth noting they had 34 additional regular season matches this season. However, buoyed by Atlanta's impressive box office, set a new league average mark in excess of 22K for the first time.

LAFC will participate in the MLS Expansion Draft today. As the only new entry into the league for next season, they will get to choose 5 unprotected players from the league's existing teams, and once a team has had a player selected, they are removed from the eligible pool of players.

It is fairly common for players to be selected and immediately sold back to the original club for cash. Bob Bradley will be the inaugural manager for LAFC. I've also seen some speculation that 2 GK could be selected for immediate trade value.

Notable unprotected players include: Brek Shea, Bill Hamid, Nick Besler, DeMarcus Beasley, Bradley Diallo, Maurice Edu, Charlie Davies, Oguchi Onyewu, Giliano WIjnaldum (Georginio's younger brother), Osvaldo Alonso, Tony Alfaro, Josh Saunders (journeyman GK), Logan Ketterer (Bradley alum), Marc Pelosi (former youth superstar and Liverpool product that has never developed at the professional level)

None of the players noted above were selected, but LA did trade their 4th and 5th picks to Montreal for Belgian international defender Laurent Ciman
