Who is their #2 then in your opinion? :? Wainright? Both Lynn and Wacha have better stats than Wainright. I would call either one of them the 2 over Wainright, no matter what the rotation order is.
Luke Weaver. Hes actually been the teams best starter since he joined the rotation full time. 6-1, 1.89 ERA, 2.57 FIP, 1.028 WHIP, 11 K/9 and 5.27 K/BB ratio.
That makes more sense. I was talking to a coworker and was a little surprised St. Louis didnt set up the rotation for Weaver to pitch in Chicago.
The Cardinals, and Matheny in particular, are weird about him being a "rookie" or being "young". Afraid of the moment being too big or something like that. It's ridiculous of course.

One could argue that after Tseng's outing last night. :(

I always think they make the narrative fit after the fact based on the result.

Maybe so, but he had an ERA under two in the minors. His ERA from last night was 15. He also hit a batter, threw behind a batter, and dropped a throw at first. I posted last night after just the first inning that he looked like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

He was awful. But a lot of guys are awful in their first major league start. And some are good. Maybe this particular guy is a mental midget.

But to use "he's a rookie" as a catch all is bad decision making.

Huh? That was the premise of the argument that the "moment" was too big.

Pitching bad in that game does not equal the moment being too big. That's my point.

Tseng himself stated differently.

But it's erroneous to assume all rookies will react the same way. Or to assume they will and adjust because of it.

Maybe veteran players wilt in big games too. It's not just a rookie thing.

Where did I say all rookies?

Tseng's comments.

You didn't.

Being a rookie doesn't increase or decrease your chance of pitching poorly in a big game. That's my point.
