The Cardinals probably won't make it, but look how they have battled the second half of the year with basically rookies carrying them. These guys weren't supposed to do anything and yet have fought for a chance (slim, I know) at a wild card spot. The future of these rookies look bright as long as they continue to develop and improve. In the offseason the Cardinals still need to go after a closer and an ace starter if possible and go from there. The future looks good under new manager, I just think this team has run out of steam unfortunately at the wrong time.
The ace starter is named Alex Reyes. He just needs to stay healthy.

The closer they need. Hicks might be one day but he isn’t there yet. It would be nice to not have him overused like he was this year.
Just use Brebbia and Leone as closers next season. Going out and spending money on one is bad money management.

I thought I had seen it all! With the season on the line, Garcia falls down rounding third base as the tieing run. Unreal.

Stumbling, bumbling their way to the golf course. Get that effing chain off your neck and maybe not so top heavy. That summed up the brewers series

Mike Shildt isn't any different than Matheny as far as in game decisions. Adolis Garcia should have never been in the game there. Taking Matt Carpenter out of the game is never a good decision.

The Cards are eliminated from the division and in danger of missing the wild card.

Brewers celebrating with champagne hooting and hollering after the game Wednesday. They do know they are still a half game behind the Chicago Cubs right? Woo-hoo let's get drunk. They earned a one game playoff! I can't believe Craig Counsell allowed that. If Cubs win the division and Brewers lose their one game playoff, Counsell will look dumber than Matheny ever did...

I don't recall if that is a thing or not to celebrate clinching a wild card, but It didn't bother me. Craig Counsel is not going to look dumb regardless.

Who is going to look dumb is Mo when the Cardinals are the same team Matheny couldn't win with, don't win under Shildt next year. The difference between the 2 managers seems to be that the players that didn't like Matheny, like Shildt.

Making the playoffs should be a big deal. Good for the Brewers.

The Yankees celebrated when they clinched a wild card.

The Brewers as a FRANCHISE have only been in playoffs 4 times. EVER.

Most of these guys never have. I would celebrate too.

Yankees 9-10 games back of Boston, no chance of first place. Brewers 1/2 game back of Cubs when they clinched. Big situational difference, IMO. Are the Brewers satisfied? From all indications, I would say yes.

The Brewers TV people and media commented how right after the game the players were happy about the playoffs but had their goals set on and planned on catching the Cubs.

This weekend's probable pitchers for the final series of the season at Wrigley:

Friday: Wainwright (2-3, 4.08) vs. Hendricks (13-11, 3.49)
Saturday: Mikolas (17-4, 2.94) vs. Hamels (9-11, 3.87)
Sunday: Flaherty (8-8, 3.16) vs. Montgomery (5-6, 3.99)

Reyes, Martinez, Mikolaz, Flaherty, Wacha should be the rotation. Put Gomber, Gant, Weaver in the pen with Hicks, Leone and Hudson. The pitching is fine.

Really they need a new bat at the corner infield. No way Carp repeats his performance this year. The offense needs another big bat

I have been saying that for 3 years. Donaldson or Moustakas were both available and we passed. Desperatley need a stick and a 3b....these guys are answer both needs. I am not going to talk about next year just yet, but I dont want to see JMart or Gryko in a starting role again. Throw a couple of pitchers into the mix and that groupong might fethc a decent corner guy.

While the finish to this season has been disappointing, I think most Cardinals fans would have taken us being this close to a Wild Card spot back when Matheny was fired just prior to the All-Star break.

Cardinals stay alive, winning 2-1.

If Dodgers win over the Giants this afternoon, Cardinals are eliminated from playoff contention.

Big picture and very, very true. The last two weeks are the problem. The first 90 or so games where.

If we played the same way in the 1st half under Matheny like we did in the 2nd half under Shildt we easily win the division . With that being said we still need another middle of the line-up bat ! Hopefully we get Reyes and Wacha back also !

If Pittsburgh played the entire season like they played July 8 to July 31 they win the division easily. :P
