I favor capital punishment. But there are alot of cases where I don't think capital punishment applies (parking violations) and cases where it should be applied (murder, child molestation, illegal HS football recruiting).- BirdWatcher

Whatever happens, it can't compare to the Wednesday night games that decided the wild cards. At this time of the year, I am used to watching College Football. But last night's baseball was some of the best I have ever seen in one evening. That being said, now Bud Selig wants to change it and add more wild card teams. Wish they would just leave well enough alone.

See, I LOVE the prospects of 2, maybe 3 days of what we've seen! And MLB does, too. That said, last night is good evidence as to why not have the additional wild card, with the two collapses seen-The Red Sox and Braves have shown they didn't deserve it. BUT, imagine if regardless of last night's results, the Red Sox had one last shot at redemption against the team that edged them out, and same for the Braves-Cardinals.

squirrel, you are absolutely correct. An additional one game wild card playoff, that is what Selig wants, is just a horrible idea. He must have consulted the IHSA when he came up with this proposed change.

I still support the idea, though. I'm just pointing out last night is why there will be skeptics. But more often than not, the teams playing in the game will be surging or at least not slumping the way both the Red Sox and Braves were. So overall it is still a strong idea.

Boston and Atlanta had 162 games to make the playoffs. The choked it away in September. To give them 1 more game to make up for their poor play would be a crime!!

Matt Moore has thrown just 9 1/3 innings in the big leagues. And now he'll be a Game 1 starter in the playoffs for Tampa Bay.

But if he consulted the IHSA the Yankees would have to be subject to the multiplier.

The playoffs begin with Tampa Bay against Texas. The rookie makes it through the first inning. He hit 98 mph on a few pitches.

The announcers said that this would be the only game that Matt Moore would pitch in this series. The way he is pitching I think the Rays might want to change their mind if this goes to game 4 or 5.

With the Tampa-Texas game winding down it is time for the Detroit-Yankee game. Two months ago I would of said if Verlander would of lost to C.C. tonight the series would of been over. The pick-up of Doug Fister has changed that. He is 7-0 with a 0.65 ERA in his last eight outings. He has gone 20 innings without walking a batter. A very nice trade for Detroit.
