Well I got the 2-2 trip I wanted against the Pirates. 22 games left and 14 are against the Brewers and Cards. When the Cubs finish the upcoming home stand, I feel like they need to be a minimum of 6 games ahead of both teams to finish things off. Really need to get the starting pitchers healthy and ready to go to make a playoff run. Can the Central Division grab the 2nd wild card spot?
Speaking of the 2nd wild card spot. I have no idea who will be the team to represent the AL.

My worries of the final 10 game road trip hasn't changed much. These next 4 games are huge for the Cubs. If the Cards come in and win at least 2 out of 3 I think the Cubs will be watching the playoffs from home. My stress level has finally hit a high for the year. Go Cubs!

2015 90-65 Wild Card team. Lost in NLCS.
2016 99-56 Won Division. World Series Champs.
2017 87-68 Close on being back in.

The team played much better after the All Star break but the last couple weeks have looked great. This year has been exhausting. If they play Washington in the 1st round it is going to be about starting pitching and timely hitting. Right now I have to give the edge in the series to Washington because of the big 2 starters, but as most baseball fans know anything can happen in the playoffs. With the start today, I have to believe Q will get a spot in the rotation and Lackey will not be on the playoff roster. Sure would be fun to celebrate in St. Louis. :)

Time to think about Rotation for Nats series. My vote: Jake game 1, Q in game 2, Hendricks in game 3, and Lester in game 4. Reasoning: Jake is a warrior, he gives no crap at all about starting game 1 on the road, then you gotta get Q in there next, Hendricks at home is a no brainer because of his great numbers at Wrigley and then Lester over Lackey because you hope Jon can find that playoff success. That's my vote. Just my opinion.

I love your thinking!! I am sure Joe is starting Hendricks in game 3. I also agree with the rest of your rotation. I am watching tonight just to hopefully see Lester pitch better. They would never tell him he isn't pitching in the playoffs but if he struggles tonight he has to go to # 4.

Three people lost food on that play. The big guy looked like he lost, well, a full plate of nachos.

That was classic! This score tonight is a little surprising. If they win tonight they will be 11-2 since the sweep by the Brewers.

There needs to be a short rope on Lester. 50 pitches and not out of 3rd.

I think Joe will TRY to get 6 innings out of him and then pull him. Lester still doesn't look right, a lot of hard hit balls again.

2015 95-65 Wild Card team. Lost in NLCS.
2016 102-58 Won Division. World Series Champs.
2017 91-69 Won Division. ????

The Cubs are playing very good baseball right now. The season is so long, with many ups and downs but this team will win the division by a comfortable margin. My 2 biggest surprises of the year has to be Happ and Jay. I had no idea when Happ came up from the minors he could get close to the numbers he put up this year. Jay settled in at leadoff and stayed around .300 the entire year with an OBP around .375. Joe is going to have some tough decisions with his rotation now that Arrietta is out until at least game 3. I still think Joe will go with Lester in game 1 because of his track record, but Hendricks wouldn't be a shock. If Arrietta can only go about 60 pitches, I would rather see Lackey start. I can't believe I just typed that. 3 years in a row Cubs fans!!

In the 2016 playoffs most the decisions were fairly easy for Joe. This year not to much. Big questions on the order of the rotation and who will be pitching. The even bigger questions will be in the field. I think he will want Baez, Jay, Heyward and Russell in the lineup. That only leaves LF for Schwarber, Happ and Zobrist. Zobrist had 2 of the biggest hits of the playoffs in 2016, Schwarber has a chance to change the game with one swing and Happ has been consistent all year. Funny thing is I never even mentioned Almora.

Cubs got theirs, I am pulling for the Nationals vs. Indians or Astros. Cleveland hasn't won since '48 and the Nationals and Astros have never won.

I'll pull for the Cub with no dog in the fight, if they are gone then all of the above reasons are why I will probably watch a good portion of the MLB post season. Baseball is my first love, so I have to look for reasons to watch into October when the Cardinals are out.
Thanks J.J. for what I consider sound advice!

Rizzo - 1B
Contreras - C
Baez - 2B
Happ - LF
Heyward - RF
Russell - SS

Rotation(all of this changes if Arrieta can go, but thats not looking likely):
Hendricks
Lester
Quintana
Lackey(If Necessary)

Pen:
Davis
Strop
Edwards
Montgomery
Duensing
Rondon
Wilson or Grimm(one or the other, not both)

Bench:
Jay/Almora
Happ/Schwarber
Zobrist
Avila
LaStella
Martin(Late inning defense and baserunning)

Then against Gio Gonzalez: You swap Almora for Jay and Schwarber for Happ.

I agree with everything you posted. Joe seems to let his loyalty get in the way at times, which is why I have a feeling he starts Lester. That is a nice bench for pinch hitting. Joe also has Mintgomery in the wings in case a starter struggles early.

Good call PND and we still aren't sure that Arrietta will start a game. Now did you think you would see this lineup today? :o

Joe Maddon has Jason Heyward in centerfield for Game 1 tonight. Kyle Schwarber is in left with Ben Zobrist leading off and playing right. Its a weaker defensive outfield but it provides more power. Here's the entire lineup: Zobrist, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1b, Contreras C, Schwarber, Russell SS, Heyward, Baez 2b, Hendricks P.

Let the playoffs begin!

I had to think about a stat I just saw. This is already Hendricks 8th playoff start. I guess going to the playoffs the last 3 years will do that. His ERA is 2.38 in those starts.

Even though he doesn’t have the flair of a strikeout pitcher like Strasburg, he just goes about his business. He has had 3 or 4 slow rollers right back to him. Time to put some hits together.

2015 Wild Card team. Lost in NLCS.
2016 Won Division. World Series Champs.
2017 Won Division. Up 1-0 in NLDS.

A huge win by the Cubs! The home teams were 6-0 in the playoffs before this Cubs win. What a great start by Hendricks and then the bullpen did their job. Only 2 hits allowed. Rizzo with 2 big hits, but Dusty really needs to explain why he didn’t walk Rizzo or have a lefty ready to pitch to him in the 8th. Back at it around 4:30 tomorrow. Hoping Lester is on tomorrow.

What could of been. I still find it hard to believe that Joe let Edwards pitch to Harper. Then brings in Montgomery and lets him face a rightie who wins the game. We have a fully rested bullpen so no reason to let either of these scenarios happen. On a positive note, both starters were tremendous and Rizzo and Bryant are hitting. Big game Monday!

The Cubs starters have given up 1 earned run and 6 hits in 3 games. Just an amazing job by Hendricks, Lester and Q. Hopefully the bats will get things going early tomorrow to support Jake. What a series so far!
