I know people didn't care for Klinsmann, but he is a billion times better than Arena. I can see us flaming out in the inter-confederation playoff. . .to China.

At least it's not totally fatal to their prospects. The group will be determined on September 5 when Serbia visits Dublin.

South Korea is in after their scoreless draw in Uzbekistan, who needed a win in the event of a Syria result, which they obtained in a 2:2 draw in Iran. Uzbekistan and China are eliminated.

Australia narrowly defeated Thailand, and will have to sweat out Saudi Arabia-Japan, which is scoreless at half. Saudi Arabia has to win to clip the Socceroos in automatic qualification.

Whoever finishes third between those 2 will advance to the AFC playoff against Syria in October to determine who will face the 4th place CONCACAF finisher.

Saudi Arabia 1:0 Japan

Saudi Arabia becomes the 8th team to qualify. It is their 5th time qualifying. They qualified every cycle from 1994 through 2006 (4 times), so this is their first appearance in 3 cycles.

Australia will have to advance via the playoffs, first against Syria in the Asian confederation playoff in October.

US down 1:0 to Honduras at half. Romell Quioto, who plays for the Houston Dynamo in MLS, has scored the lone goal in the match thus far, in the 27th minute.

U.S. and Honduras draw 1:1 as the Americans escape San Pedro Sula with a point. Result actually hurts Honduras more than it does the Americans as Honduras' last two matches are at Costa Rica and hosting Mexico.

Yep- just have to take care of Panama, essentially. But, Arena can still send us to a playoff defeat against Syria.

What? You mean you wouldn't like to see the U.S. take on the Soccerroos?

A US/Syria match in Damascus would be explosive.

Would much prefer the 'Roos. But it's not nearly as epic a fail for making such a foolish decision based on one relatively meaningless result.😂😂😂

Also, exhibit PW as to why you leave players out of the decision making process.

Chile loses 2:1 to Bolivia. They now sit 2 spots out of automatic qualification and 1 out of the playoff, with remaining matches against Ecuador and Brazil.

Peru, who sits ahead of both Argentina (only on goals scored-third highest in S. American qualifying) and Chile has Argentina and Colombia remaining, while Argentina has Peru and Ecuador.

As if the OFC-CONMEBOL playoff wasn't already a foregone conclusion, NZ could be facing Argentina or Chile

Something will have gone horribly wrong if we don't get the full 6 out of Panama and @Trinidad.

Wouldn't it be something if the U.S. made it through without getting the usual 15 points needed to qualify through?
