TAS, any reason Duke didn't get sent to Nashville for first two rounds?

Mizzou got more misery coming unless “I am compliance” finds a way to hold off the Mizzou student-athlete handbook minimum one-week suspension for a first time offense.
FWIW Barnett was not with the team on the floor at the NCAA reveal party at Mizzou Arena today. He was in the building but not with the team.

I have no idea until I see a 1-68 seed list, to be honest
That's enough, Reggie Miller.

So much for how you are playing last 10 games.....and its not like they were losing close games, OK, they were getting blitzed.
So I was in the airport the other day and I saw AL B., PM me if you want more details.

They threw out the last 10 games metric years ago....quite frankly it's a good thing because if they did, they'd say all the mid majors played no one and would automatically be off the bubble :joker

It was the entire "body of work" that got them in the tournament. Apparently, it doesn't matter how they were playing at the end of the season.

No Valley teams in the NIT. Being the eighth ranked conference will only get you so far if you are more top heavy. They weren’t this year, and even with fewer NIT bid thieves the Valley probably did not deserve an NIT bid. Conference USA was ranked 15th but had two top 40 RPI teams that did not make the NCAA Tournament. The West Coast Conference was ranked 13th but had a top 40 St. Mary’s and #67 BYU deservedly make the NIT. That’s what needs to happen in the Valley. The Valley needs at least two teams to step up into top 60 to 70 RPI territory every year. Forget conference ranking. They just need more teams to play better, and I think there were some teams including Bradley that are on their way to making that next step up next year.

Paymon score 348. Maybe, maybe gets me into the upper quartile of brackets. In fact probably, judging by last year and given that there's more variability in the teams chosen.

Most important, beat the hack Palm.

Well I guess St. Mary's can't exactly complain about not being able to schedule up:

There are many examples over the years of St. Mary's turning down games. Hard to feel much sympathy for them in these situations.

Oh great. Yeah, my opinion about them has definitely changed after hearing this. Why would they turn down those games when it’s so hard for other like minded mid-majors to schedule games against teams like this.

The weird thing about St Mary's is that their non-con SoS....about 170. Not good enough, but not terrible. Makes you wonder. They turned down Creighton, URI and Nevada. But they did play the Wooden Legacy....where they couldn't do better than Harvard/Wazzu/Georgia...played a road game at a Pac-12 team, but it turned out to be Cal....played Dayton in the worst possible year...played some conference champs and decent teams (Irvine, Asheville, NMSU). The problem was they turned down the great games to schedule the merely good games.

Annual review time:

How many times did a Power 6 conference team play a true road game at someone outside the Power 6?

I found 41 such games. (I didn't include a few games like Miami playing at Hawaii in the Diamond Head tournament, games part of MTTs)

Side note: Flagrant offenders? The Big 12 played exactly 1 such game in the entire conference. It was Oklahoma @ WIchita St. Good Lord. The Big 10 only played 2 such games.

Ok back to the list. Of the 41, the following were games at AAC royalty (or Gonzaga) and I think we can come to a consensus these games go against the spirit of the post:
Oklahoma @ Wichita St
Arkansas @ Houston
Mississippi St @ Cincinnati
LSU @ Memphis
Creighton @ Gonzaga
Wisconsin @ Temple
USC @ SMU

The following are rivalry games that are always played (intra-state games, Big 5, etc):
Villanova @ St Joseph's
Villanova @ Temple
Providence @ Rhode Island
Colorado @ Colorado St
Utah @ BYU

Also, Pitt @ Navy is in here, but that was a made-for-TV opening night game.
I'm also throwing out North Carolina @ Davidson. How UNC was allowed to call this a true road game is a disgrace to the system.

27 games left.

The Mountain West got the following games:
Arizona @ UNLV
Arizona @ New Mexico
Oregon @ Fresno St
California @ San Diego St
Actually a pretty admirable effort by Zona.

The A-10 got the following games:
Georgia @ UMass
Virginia @ VCU
Miami @ George Washington
Providence @ UMass
Georgetown @ Richmond (GU played the 351st best schedule in the country; this game showing up on the schedule is like an accounting error)
Penn St @ George Mason

The following games were played by P6 teams who were expected to be bad:
Vanderbilt @ Belmont
Ole Miss @ Middle Tennessee
Boston College @ Hartford
Georgia Tech @ Wofford
Wake Forest @ Charlotte
Wake Forest @ Coastal Carolina (a year after playing a couple of these, Wake played a couple more!)
Oregon St @ Kent St
Stanford @ Long Beach St
Washington St @ Idaho
Washington St @ UTEP
California @ Seattle
DePaul @ UIC

This leaves the following. Power 6 teams expecting to be in the NCAA tournament, who risked a true road game at a non-power school. These are the programs to be saluted.
Auburn @ Murray St - !!!!!!!! Bruce Pearl!
South Carolina @ Wofford
South Carolina @ Florida International - Frank Martin played 2 of these games! Coming off a Final Four!
Notre Dame @ Delaware
Xavier @ Northern Iowa
That's enough, Reggie Miller.

That's enough, Chris Webber.

TAS, did you ever find the 1-68 rankings the NCAA had for the tournament? I'm still curious why Duke would get shipped to Pittsburgh for the 1st 2 rounds rather than go to the closer venue in Nashville. I know Cincy and Xavier both got sent to Nashville though off the top of my head I'd think that Pittsburgh would be a closer venue for both of them than Duke would be.

Google Maps has Durham to Pitt and Durham to Nashville as a near wash. I think Duke was sent to Pitt and Cincy schools to Nashville based on regional fan base support models.

Looks like the NCAA disagrees. NCAA marked Nashville as better than Pittsburgh for Xavier. And marked Pittsburgh as better than Nashville for Duke. And marked both of these sites as better than Detroit for both Cincy and Xavier, kicking Tennessee out of Nashville and keeping MIchigan St, but not Michigan, in Detroit.

It's a mess.
