And the answer to the original question?

It was bizarre that FSU didn’t foul and we can only assume they gave up even though Michigan had 2 poor FT shooters on the floor.

I thought the opposite. :P

Duke had 3 fouls through about 18 minutes of second half and Bagley gets away with a lot of chicken wing moves.

If you are talking about the late call against Duke under the hoop... close but the defender made that slight slide to the left that made it a block.

How the ref noticed that is beyond me but it was the correct call....
So I was in the airport the other day and I saw AL B., PM me if you want more details.

A Kansas-related blowout in a national semifinal game?

Any excuse to post this:

That's enough, Reggie Miller.

That's enough, Chris Webber.

Villanova with a 2nd national title in 3 years. 2nd championship for the city of Philadelphia in the last couple months.

First time a city has a Super Bowl champion and the men's national champion in the same year.

That's not surprising. Without any research, but off the top of my head, there are probably only a couple of NCAA champions that reside in a city with any major professional sport, let alone NFL.

So, If your point is, cant believe its never happened before, I can. If your point is, rare indeed. I agree
Thanks J.J. for what I consider sound advice!

Bingo. Interestingly, it looks like Loyola-Chicago and the Bears were the last combo in 1963, in the pre-Super Bowl era.

But in the modern era, you basically have only a few serious legitimate perennial contenders on the hardwood that would also come from a town with a Super Bowl team.

Off the top of my head, the biggest ones that could realistically do it are Villanova(obviously just did it), Miami, USC, UCLA, Houston?, Cincinnatti, Xavier, Pitt(haha, ok maybe not anymore  ), Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Loyola, DePaul(again ), TCU?

Im sure there are others, but off the top of my head those are the bigger schools that are in NFL cities.

Someone on another board I post on brought up 3 times previously it nearly happened.

1980: Rams lose the Super Bowl to the Steelers and then UCLA lost to Louisville for the national title.
1984: The Washington NFL Franchise lost the Super Bowl to the Raiders and Georgetown won the national title.
2010: The Colts lose the Super Bowl to the Saints and Butler loses the national title game to Duke.

The Redskins were defeated in part due to a huge play by former Illini Jack Squirek. Oh the irony.
