Still 6 outs to go but a great job by Chatwood coming on in relief and the biggest out in the game was probably the Hamels strikeout on Votto. The new guys are really helping the offense and I include Happ in that group.

Happ is really contributing on offense for sure. Dude doesn't want to go back to Iowa.

Offense is clicking. I like the approach Joe has for the rest of the year. No time for rest, if you are producing you will be playing. Put the pedal to the medal.

With runners at the corners and no out, it wasn’t the time for Baez,Happ and Schwarber to try to be hero’s. We came up empty handed. Against Bauer, we just need to move runners.

That inning looked like the Cubs on the road most the year. You can’t win them all and there is still a couple innings left but why the hell wont Joe let Cishek get some rest! No reason to pitch him tonight.

Baez, Happ and Schwarber a combined 0-12 with 0-8 RISP and 5 K’s. Won’t win many that way.

Steve Cishek to the 10-day IL with left hip inflammation. Dillon Maples recalled from AAA Iowa.

Joe just wore Cishek out, period. Another observation from last night and Kasper also mentioned it. Our 5,6,7 hitters went up to the plate with one mindset to be a hero with one swing. As a result it was ground balls and pop ups. We won’t win a division with that mindset.

We came ready NOT to play. Not sure where Almora has his head, but all the talk that he will play ones that are ready is bogus.

This is bad ;)

Aquino on the verge of history. 3 HR and only 4 innings in to this one. 4 is the record for a game, done 18 times.

We got that one right, don’t give him anything to hit. And it won’t be any easier on Sunday as we will face Castillo. With Brewers and Cards winning, our 3 1/2 game lead has evaporated quickly.

Just when I was getting optimistic the five starters (except for Ouintana) have taken a dump.

Code: Select all

Last start for the Big Five

  Pitcher Innings Earned Runs ERA

Hendricks 2 2/3 7 28.35
Darvish 6 4 6.00
Hamels 3 4 12.00
Quintana 7 1 1.29

Very glad I was at a charity event last night so didn't have to watch the game. Huge home run by Bryant today. I'll take 2-2 at Cincy, now need to finish this road trip strong.

The above stats on the starters mean nothing in that short of period. The starters are still the strength of this team and if they *** the rest of the year then the Cubs will be watching the playoffs in front of their television.

How big of a win was the Orioles' dramatic walk-off victory over the Astros? You can call it the upset of the year -- or even bigger. The Astros closed as -450 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook, the biggest favorite of the season and the second biggest over the past 15 years, according to BetLabSports.com. In 2016, the Dodgers were -485 in a game versus the Braves.

It was a nice road win today. If you look at Joe’s record with the Cubs it is really good, plus a World Series. However he has basically the same team the past 4 years and expectation was that he should have another World Series under his belt. And last years ending was tough to swallow. First losing the series to St Louis, then the games with Brewers an Rockies at home. A division win might IMO get him another contract. Anything less, I don’t think Theo will keep him.

14 Ks for Quintana through 6. A personal best for Q.

Wasted performance by Q as this offense goes stale as a year old bag of potato chips.

That strike call in the 9th would have been high on Manute Bol.

That call is impossible for MLB to defend.

There’s a video of it here. Make it full screen and check out the location on pitch cast.
