According to the ITFCCA, the IHSA Track and Field Advisory Committee met today (Sept. 1) and decided to go back to the old two-day (prelims-finals) format for the State Track Meet. They also decided to keep qualifying standards the same as this year.
This still has to be approved by the Board of Directors, but I think that will just be a rubber stamp.
Sort of disappointed, as I really liked the one-day format this year, even with its glitches, especially in the girls meet. But I sort of figured things would go back to the way they used to be.
Freezing the qualifying standards was a good move, though at least for 1A, times/distances wouldn't have changed as much as you'd think. The top performers were still there, the bottom just fell out in some events after the first 15-20.
And, of course, this all depends on things going back to sort of normal for next spring...
State Track probably back to two days
