I am an Illinois grad who goes to a game or two every couple years. If they want to avoid large numbers of fans from other schools buying tickets, they should consistently be better at football. Then you can look at dynamic pricing for premium games when you make tickets available to the general public.
There were several years where they sold out the Horseshoe with $77 season tickets. Make the least desirable seats cheap and easy to buy, and drive your revenues (and the market) with your popular and premium inventory.

I got 6 for $163.50, so it was a 'buy 4 or more' deal.
I only need 2. Got them for $162 in east balcony.

High of 70 on Saturday for the Homecoming game, and tickets are available for $38.50 when you buy 2 or more. Hopefully, another good crowd will be on hand.

Smart play by the DIA to Flash Sale tickets for $24 yesterday (and this morning). A quick check of the ticketing map looks like there are less than 5,000 tickets available. When the crowd ratchets up, so does the pressure to win.

Now wait a minute. I was laughed at for saying a 1-loss Illinois team could very easily miss out on a playoff spot last year.

Per FiveThiryEight, if Illinois were to win out, they'd have a 95% chance of making the playoff.

A lot will still depend on who they are there with. If you still have 3 unbeaten teams (say Georgia, TCU and Clemson), I can think of a half dozen 1-loss teams that would be likely to get in before Illinois.

What is sad about this is they should be undefeated had they not gotten screwed in Indiana.

They screwed themselves at Indiana. The officiating was terrible, yes. But Illinois failed to take an easy 3 points which would have prevented them from losing in regulation, at the very least. The officials had nothing to do with that.

Well it was after the game and after Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family.” Every Gopher was off the field for 5+ minutes at that point in time.

If you were there, I would have bought you a concession of your choice.

I'd like to see Illinois be competitive in that game. My goal for the Illini is to get to 8 or 9 wins and play on January 2nd, but avoid the ***-whooping that would come from playing tOSU in the Big Ten Championship game. Let Purdue have that one.

There's no audio with it but this tweet makes it seem as if it was late in the 4th quarter (not doubting you, just saying):
